この本を一言で言うと「見やすい」ということになります。
従来の図鑑には樹木の全体像を扱ったものと、
樹木の葉のみを扱っているものがありました。
結局、従来の図鑑では樹木を検索するのに
何冊も見なければならず、ついにはあきらめてしまいます。
しかし、この本では掲載されている樹種数は少ないものの、

掲載されている樹種に関しては限られたスペースの中でも
樹木の全体像とその葉の写真が並べて掲載されているため
大変見やすくなっております。
樹木の初学者をはじめ、樹木の名前を覚えるのを
諦めてしまった方にもお勧めできます。

葉の形や付き方は，樹種同定の最も有効なポイントといっても過言ではないでしょう。この本の最もよいところは，実際の葉のスキャン画像を用いて各樹木が紹介されていることです。色や艶，葉の厚さといったように，絵ではなかなか伝わりにくい情報もスキャン画像ならば一目瞭然です。基本的な樹木の同定であれば，この本で十分でしょう。紙も厚くて，丈夫です。

最近、紅葉に興味を持ち始めて、良く街路樹に目を向けるようになりました。でも、木の名前が全然分からなくて･･･。花が散ってしまえば「桜」の木も分からなくなってしまう程。
そこでこの本に出会いました。
今では休みの日には山へ行き、楽しんでいます。葉で検索できるので、とっても簡単。小さいから荷物にもならないし、写真が綺麗で「名前の由来」とかも載ってて気に入っています。針葉樹も記載されているのも嬉しいです。
