文庫版全１０巻の中で、一番好きな巻です。

「天使に生まれ変わる　パンが欲しい
　イアンを好きだってことが　苦しい
　好きな人に、ぼくが腐ってるってことを　話す事が苦しい」
これまでで、穏やかな告白。穏やかな二人を見る事ができました。
その反面、主人公が激しくイアンを責めるシーンもあります。

グレッグのしたことは、決して許されるべきではないと思います。
でも、彼も心がバラバラになって苦しんでいたのかと思うと、
少しだけ彼に同情をしました。
あんなにグレッグが憎かったのに、こんな気持ちにさせられるとは・・・
さすが萩尾さんだと思いました。

あの森を通り抜けないと
もう一度通り抜けないと
生き返らないんだ


今だ、崖っぷちを走り続けているジェルミ。

彼の痛みを知ろうと「対話」を試みるイアン。

対話の中で、再度繰り返される悪魔の情事にジェルミは混乱し、内なる゛叫び゛に翻弄され過ちを犯してしまう。

それでも、対話から導き出されたものは負の部分だけでなく、イアンと衝突し合いながらも心開き語るジェルミの想いは、真っ白でとても清らか。

愛と憎は、表裏一体で同じ位のパワーがあります。
愛する想いに押し潰されそうになり、嘆くナディアの気持ちや、グレッグのようにならないか不安を募らせるイアンの心情もとてもよく描かれている。

この作品事態が虐待の゛痛み゛であり、私はイアンのように目を背けず、向き合いたいと思います。

素晴らしい作品に出会えた事に感謝です。


【追記】
この文庫タイプ8巻のエッセイは、魅力的な舞台を作り続けておられる松尾スズキさんです。
全巻通してですが、皆様エッセイはただのファンレターと化しています・笑
こちらも一読すると面白いですよ。

正常な登場人物が一人もいない。イアンはジェルミを「愛」か何かわからない感情で無理矢理抱いているし、ジェルミは幻覚・幻聴に苦しめられている。見たくもないと思っていたグレッグが回想シーンで出てくるし（しかも醜悪な行為を繰り返して）、イアンの元恋人ナディアと妹マージョリーの母クレアも、異常な愛情を下の娘マージョリーだけにそそぐ。マージョリーは自殺未遂を繰り返す年齢より幼い少女で、母クレアには幼い頃に性的虐待をされた経験が。ナディアはクレアからの愛をもらえず反対に精神的虐待の対象になっているし、そのナディアはイアンに振られてなおイアンにしがみつく。みんな自分勝手でみんな誰かにしがみつき、同時にそれを恐れている。自分の感情をため込みながら一番悪い形でヒステリックに吐き出している。ともかく正常な人間が出てこない巻。

クレアという母親と娘ナディアの関係を見ていると、萩尾さん自身に母親との同じ関係があるとしか思えない。描きながら、萩尾さんも怒りを吐き出していたのだろうか。
