　もうこんなにすごい漫画を描ける人は、これから先現れないのではないかと思います。それほどまでに他から抜きんでています。SF大作であるこの作品は、男性ファンが多い事でも知られています。他の少女漫画にはあまりみられない、論理性・知性がその理由ではないでしょうか。読者に媚びる内容ではなく、ストーリーの流れの必然性の上に著者がたっているという感じです。しかし、男性漫画家のSFにありがちなマニアックさは感じられず、その点で女性にも読みやすいものとなっています。

　漫画なんて…と思ってる人には是非読んで欲しい作品です。きっとあなたの漫画感が変わるはずです。いや、それ以上に考えさせられることがいっぱいつまっています。作者のあふれる知性・想像性にふれてみて下さい。あなたの世界も豊かになるはずです。

　最後に、私が一番記憶に残っているフレーズは「進化は退化」です。これを読んだ時、まさに目から鱗でした。

ニュー・トーキョー・シティーで暮らす少女、レッド・星（セイ）。赤い瞳と白い髪を持つ彼女は、地球の流刑地であった火星で生まれた火星人。ワケあって、それを隠して生活していたが、生まれた地への思いは強く、不思議な少年エルグとともに、いまは地球の植民地となっている火星へと旅立つ。生まれた星でセイを待っていたものは・・・。

火星人・セイを通して語られる火星の歴史、地球と火星の対立、悲惨な戦い、さらには人類の行く末と存在する理由。毎度のことながら、作者・萩尾望都氏の類まれなる創造力と表現力には圧倒されてしまいます。
雑誌掲載が１９７８年と古い作品ですが、今読んでも十分におもしろく古臭さも感じない。壮大なストーリーに世界観、申し分のないＳＦの大作です。

この本にはじめて出会って、コミックの可能性を感じました。それはきっと、作者の構想力や描写力がなせる技なのでしょう。
描かれた時代から何年も経つにもかかわらず、例えば、未来図に色あせたものを感じさせないのは、作者の感性のすばらしさと思います。　
誰しも一度は夢想する超能力という力に対する考え方も、初めて知る新鮮さがありました。　
　是非、皆の支持を得て、もっともつと永く残って欲しい作品です。
