「Period」３部作の第２巻。決して明るい話ではありません。でも、考えさせられる話です。私個人は、様々な暴力に晒された「ハルちゃん」と「ヨキ」の兄弟がどう生きるのか。そして、１巻の巻頭部分にどうリンクし、この作品が完成するのか気になります。

　２部では、「ハルちゃん」と「ヨキ」の兄弟は親と暮らせない子供たちの暮らす施設に預けられます。そして、ここでも待っているのが「暴力」です。
　親の居る家庭の子供たちから、施設に対する子供たちに対する「暴力」「偏見」。施設の子供たちは、外からの暴力に結託していこうとは考えません。
　「自分は違う。自分はいつか、この施設を出て行き、親と暮らすから。」施設内の子供たちの心に存在する「差別意識」。自分さえいじめられなければいい、という「自己中心的な自己防衛」。
　また、「ハルちゃん」の担任による暴力。親が東大出と知ったとたん教室で始まってしまう、不当な扱い。
　
　様々な暴力の中でも、「ハル」と「ヨキ」は全く違った対処をしながら、生活ていきます。そこに、暗さはありません。春のザリガニつり、夏のプール、中学生との野球試合。日常は「闇」ばかりでなく、「子供時代しか味わえない光」も四季の中に存在します。
　ただ、「また、あの家で両親と暮らしたい。」一番言いたくて、叶えられない希望を抱えて。それは、施設に住むどの子供の望みでもあるのです。
　
　一番の望みを叶えられぬまま、「子供」がどう生きていくのか？これだけが、テーマではないと思います。読む人によって、その人のテーマを見つけられる、多くの人に読んでもらい感想を聞きたくなる作品です。

知的で大人びていていつも弟を見守るハルカ。ハルカに守られ奔放で無邪気な中に残忍さを併せ持つヨキ。「1」に引き続き偏執狂的な父親のD.V.から解放されても世間の暴力に晒され続けるこの兄弟に、遠い懐かしさを感じるのはなぜだろう。ハルカのように冷静で知的でもない、ヨキのように赤裸々な強さもない。D.V.も施設も経験はない。なのにかつて子供であったことで誰もが味わったことのある感覚を呼び覚ます手触りがある。

吉野朔実さんの本は全て持ってます。そして、全て大好きです。
特に現在に近づくほど素敵な作品を創造するあたりが素晴らしいと思います。（マンネリがない）
絵で表されながら文学的で、その絵もお話もオリジナリティがあって素敵。
美しさ、優しさ、暖かさ、そして現実を挟んだ、厳しさ、冷たさ、悲しみ。
それらを絵と文で表せる稀代の作家だと思っています。
ただ、この作品はコミックスというジャンルが一番好きで初めて（吉野先生作品に）挑戦、という方にはお勧めしません。
逆に小説が好き、という方にはいいかもしれません。
個人的な意見ですがコミックス派の方なら「いたいけな瞳」などから試されてはいかがでしょうか。
でも、私はperiodが大好きです。どこにも無いコミックスを創ってくれる、いつまでも活躍して頂きたい私の No.1 です。(コミックス以外にも活躍されているので)
ちなみに本の紹介をしているエッセイ風のシリーズもかなりお勧めです。
