漫画や小説の世界で「子供時代」が描かれるとき、それはたいてい美化される傾向にある。美化されるというより、単に美しくない部分が作者の中で忘れ去られているのかも知れない。
主人公のともおは、団地住まいの小学生。中学生のお姉ちゃんと、お母さんとの3人暮らし。お父さんは単身赴任中。

家は裕福な方とは言えないし、ともお自身は勉強もスポーツも出来ない、どちらかというと落ちこぼれに属する男の子だ。でも、別に学校でいじめられているわけではない。友達もたくさんいるし、毎日を伸び伸び、精一杯「小学生して」生きている。

ともおが何の取り柄もない小学生に設定されたことで、初めて見えてくる小学生の日常がある。恐らく、これまで小学生を題材にした漫画ではほとんど描かれてこなかった部分だ。

だいたいにして、ノスタルジーとかなんとか言ってみても、普通は子供時代なんてそんなに美しいものじゃない。小学生なんてバカだし、すぐ泣くし、嘘をつくし、厄介な生き物なのだ。でも、だからこそ、大人から見ればかわいいところもあるし、見ていて切なくもなる。

フツーの小学生時代を送った人ならば、誰もが通りすぎてきた風景が、この漫画にはある。思いっきり意地悪な大人の視点からで良いので、彼らを観察してみて欲しい。恥ずかしい過去として封印してきた自分の子供時代にも、多少愛着が沸くかもしれない。

いわゆるレトロブームな世の中だけに、またなんか懐メロ漫画の登場かい？と斜めから読み始めたのだが、回を追う毎に、主人公のともおの何かが私を惹きつけて止まない。
それは決して甘っちょろいノスタルジックなどではない。
事実私はこの時代に生まれていない。
そう、これは最早一種のファンタジーなのだ。

年号のような現実と空想をつなぐものが全く出てこない。
話の中で、ともおは今も当たり前のように小学生として生き、当たり前のように団地で過ごしているだろう。
作者がどこまで考えているか分からないが、近い将来確実にこの作品は何か賞を取り、アニメ化され、もしかしたら第２のちびまる子ちゃんとなるほどの脚光を浴びるかもしれない。

それほどの作品だ。

私自身、毎週の連載を楽しみにしているが、コミックスになってもその色があせる事がなく、コミックスを買おうか悩んでいる人は今すぐアマゾンでの購入をおすすめする。

本当に癒される漫画だと思います。
2巻や3巻にも好きな話はたくさんありますが、
ちょっと泣きの部分を狙いすぎかな？という感じもしたので
私はこの1巻が大好きです。
