私は5巻が一番好きです。
中でも、最後に、ペコとスマイルが試合している中で出てくる、小さい
ときの二人のタムラでの思い出が描かれているところは、うるっときま
す（二人が卓球台に座っておしゃべりしているところとか）。
何度読んでも、人物の魅力、絵のタッチ、時々描かれるオトシどころ、
全てが面白い。

映画化で話題になってたから、気になって原作漫画をまとめ買いした。
才能っていう目に見えない力に人は憧れるが、結果的に人生には勝ち組と負け組っていう枠組がある。
その辺の人間模様が如実に現れている世界に深く引き込まれた。
「飛べない鳥もいる」
「理想を掲げる事はたやすいのです。ただ、理想の追求を許された人間は少ない。」
「無能を受け入れてしまえば安心できた。」
等の言葉は、自分にとって現実っていうものを突きつけられた。

あまりにもすばらしい作品。
映画から入った方は「ピンポン」という作品を、
主人公ペコの成長活劇だ、と捉えているのだろう。
それは違う。
「ピンポン」の物語の軸は、あくまでもスマイル。
第一巻の表紙を飾っているところからも、それが読み取れる。
スマイルは自分を助けに来てくれるヒーローを待ち続ける。
それが１〜４巻までの物語の軸。
そして、この５巻でついに、ヒーローが現れる。
ヒーローはスマイルのために、勇気を出した。努力をした。そして、強くなった。
スマイルはヒーローに救われ、涙を流す。
５巻の表紙を飾るのは、本当のヒーロー。

映画は一度観て、愕然として、あえてもう一度観た。
作品の本質を感じ取れない人が原作をいじってはいけない。

とにかくすごい。映画も流行って楽しいかもしれないけど、読んだ後だったので結構がっかりしました。世界が違う感じ。血は鉄の味がするんだよね。
