こまわり君が、中年になってたなんて。
知らなかった。
流石に彼も大人になった。
今のこまわり君にはもう、あふりか象やら死刑！
やらの無茶は、あまりできない。
可愛い妻子を養ってるし、うさんくさい上司の指示にも従わなきゃなんないしね。
だけどね〜、彼ったら、ぜんぜん変わってない。
本当にあのこまわり君が、ちゃんと大人になってそこにいる。
しみじみと、よかった。
これは文学の趣をただよわせた良質のギャグ漫画です。
おとなのための一冊。

38歳、妻と小学生の息子一人の家庭を抱えたサラリーマン・こまわり君の現在を描いた作品だ。
結論から言えば、かつての『がきデカ』のノリでこまわり君のギャグ連発を期待すると、
その期待は大きく裏切られる。もちろん随所に昔を懐かしめるカットや今に置き換えたギャクも
多々挿入されているが、この作品はもはや単なるギャグ漫画のジャンルに留まらない、ある種の
暗さを湛えた成熟した大人の漫画になっている。

少年時代、ボクたちは『がきデカ』ワールドの中でこまわり君たちと生きていた。その頃は、
人の世がこれほど奥深いとは知らぬまま・・・。そんなボクたちが大人になって世の中を知り、
日々その現実と対峙している。そしてこまわり君も同じように成長し、同時代を生きている。
ボクらもこまわり君たちも、もう昔のままではないし、昔の姿に戻ることはないのだ。
この作品ではその現実から目を背けられないということを思い知らされる。

そのこと自体は良いことでも、悪いことでもないのだろう。ただ私はこの現実感、リアリティを
感じさせてくれる『中春こまわり君』という作品が自分の人生を記録した１ページのように
感じられ、ただただ愛おしくて仕方がないのである。

昨年６月発売予定とアナウンスされてから長く音沙汰がなく、ファンとしては大いにやきもきしたが、無事に発売されてひと安心。改めて山上節というか、ギャグとシリアスが緩急自在のテンポ・ひと見開きで読者を取り込むシャープな構成に感心する。何より嬉しいのは、我々が青春時代を共にしたこまわり君や西城くんが、我々と同じような悩みを抱えつつも元気に力強く、ギャグを忘れずに生きていること。それが確認できただけでも、自分にとって価値のある一冊だった。
