漫画家志望の若者（と、若者以外の方）は、このマンガを絶対に読んで欲しい。
漫画家ではなく、ミュージシャンを目指す人にも読んで欲しい。
特に何も目指していなくても、「自分には才能がある」と、
明確に、あるいはぼんやりと思っている人にも、読んで欲しい。

この「漫画家超残酷物語」のテーマは「自意識」である。
人間、誰しも自意識がある。自分は自分で、他人は他人。
他人は100万人いても全員他人であり、自分は世界中に自分一人しかいない。
自分だけは誰しも特別で、自分は、自分の分かりようでしか
世界も他人も見る事ができない。
自分を客観的に見る事など、誰もできない。だって自分は特別だから。
…という事が、どのページをめくっても、イヤというほど書いてある。
これほど面白く、これほど読むのが辛いマンガは、本書と、
福満しげゆきの「僕の小規模な失敗」くらいだろう。

徳川家康が三方ヶ原の戦いで敗れた後で、そのときの無様な姿を絵師に描かせ、常に自戒を促すために見ていたという故事がありますが、そういう効果を期待できる本です（汗）。連載が締め切り近くでせっぱ詰まっているのに、コミケが近いからと勝手に離脱するアシスタントの話や、他の方が書かれていたストーカー的なファンの話など、編集者側（要はビジネス側）との軋轢だけではない漫画家の心を削られるような体験の数々がつづられています。アシスタントの話を読んで、何か昨今終わった某日露戦争漫画が、最後の辺りでは作者一人で描いていた事実の真相のヒントをつかんだような気がしました。
そういうわけで、漫画家志望者のみならず、自己表現で生活していこうとしている全ての人に勧めたい本です。キャラのネーミングなどが少々唐沢先生にしては露骨に下品ですが、それが耐えられれば買いかと。

しかし、単純に「漫画なんて同人活動くらいでかまわない」とか漫画に夢を見ていたい方は読んではいけません（笑）そういう人にも毒がぶっかかってきます。それくらいタイトルに偽りなしの内容です。

先ごろ亡くなられた永島慎二の古典的傑作「漫画家残酷物語」のパロディであることは一目瞭然。が、当世漫画家事情を赤裸々に綴る語り口を踏襲した以外は、唐沢氏のオリジナルであり、彼の土俵のギャグマンガである。
にも関わらず、妙にリアルで洒落になっていない感が濃厚に漂う。我々第三者にとってはそこが笑いどころなのだが、あまねくマンガ出版に関わる方々へのペーソスは容易に想像できるわけで、これは最早、リメイクと言った方が良いのかもしれない。
