かくも少女時代の、儚くも残酷な物語か。
誰も救えず、誰も救われず、しかし生きていく事への
渇望。

貧困が全て。
貧困さえなければ。
みさちゃんやきいちゃんがどんなにか幸せであっただろうか。

ｵｰﾙｶﾗｰの、しかし相変わらず読み難いｺﾏ割りなど
苦笑する点もいくつかあるものの、ここにある世界観は
確かに「うつくしいのはら」に連綿と継承されていく。

ﾗｽﾄ、あまりの強烈さに、最早言葉を失う。

「ぼくんち」と雰囲気は似ています。
が、「ぼくんち」は「読者をどこで感動させるか」みたいなのが
はっきりしている
（だからこそ映画化もされたのでしょう）のに対し、
こちらは、実話に基づいている（と思われる）からでしょうか、
なんだかやりきれないだけ、というエピソードもあるのですが、
全体を読み終えると、
どっちかというと特殊な環境の話、ともよめる
「ぼくんち」よりも、そのへんのどこにでもいる、ふつうの人間の強さのようなものを感じました。

西原さんの投影、と思われる主人公が、
後でヤンキー姉ちゃんになってからよりも、
まだ小さい女の子のうちに友達ができなくてひとりぼっちのとき、
自分の影をながめて（物語を作って）自分を慰める、
とか、強烈な印象が残ってます。

芸として作品の質も（ストーリーとか、構成とか、絵とか）
たいへん高いと思いますし、女の子が大人になる時の切なさみたいなものも見事に表現されていると思います。

人それぞれですが、私は西原さんが
感想を限定している（肯定せよといっている）ようには読めませんでした。
ただ、上京ものがたりがさいごは双六の上がり、みたいな終わりなのに比べると、こちらは最後までほろ苦い感じで、好みがわかれるとしたら
そこでしょうか。でも西原ワールド、好きな人には王道だと思います。

ぼくんちに通じる作品で、西原さんの持味の一つがよく表れた作品だと思います。
しかし購入当時、ぼくんちに比べ印象の弱い作品に思え、一度読んでそれっきりになっていました。
作者が自叙伝的な本作から何を伝えどうオチをつけたいのかが、伝わりきらなかったからというのも一因でした。

しかし最近「ユリイカ・西原理恵子特集」を読んで、作者が自身の作品から何を伝えたいと思っているのか、はっきりと知る事ができ、改めて読み直しました。
生まれで決まってしまうどうしようもない貧困が今も日本に実在する事、その中で必死に生きている人がいる事、それを全く気付かない世界があるから作者はこのジャンルを必死に書き続けているんだと思って読むと、この作品はテーマが重く、傑作です。

傑作ですが星3つにしたのは、ユリイカとの併読により初めて作品の真の価値が見えてきた為です。この作品単独でもこの重いテーマが完全に伝わっていたなら星5つでした。
