死んだ若葉と瓜二つの容姿を持つ滝川あかねが引っ越してきた前巻。その後、星秀の選抜出場の夢は叶わなわず、コウたち三年生は最後の夏に出場するため、そして若葉が最後に見た夢を正夢にするために練習に励む。

そんな中でも、一度火が付いちゃった恋はなかなか鎮火しない。たとえそれが種火であったとしても。
バレンタインデーを境に、今まで超高校級の球児としてしか立ち現れなかった東雄平が、なんと青葉にモーションをかけ始めるのだ。おまけに、バッティングピッチャーをしていた際に青葉に怪我を負わせてしまったことで、さらに急接近。
これがホントの怪我の功名ってやつ？

そんな東、そして青葉を気にしながらも、コウはコウであかねと一見順調な関係を築いていく。赤石のアシストによって。

赤石にとってあかねとの出会いは、神か仏が与えてくれた本来は不可能であるはずの若葉との「再会」だったのかもしれない。だが、それでも彼はそのチャンスをコウにゆずってしまう。なぜなら、東曰く赤石は、若葉が大好きだったのと同じくらいコウのことも好きだからである。そして、赤石自身、若葉はコウといるときが一番楽しそうだったと述懐する。彼は、叶わぬ恋を叶わぬままにすることこそに骨身を削っているのである。そんな生き方なかなかできるものではないのではないだろうか。

竜旺が選抜王者となった今、星秀は彼らに立ち向かうことができるのかということ以上に男も女も恋の季節。
そして、赤石先輩かっこよすぎです！な12巻。

あだち先生はこのお話を『ラフ』のようにコンパクトにまとめるつもりなのでしょうか？

コウたちはもう3年生。春のセンバツの優勝校も決まり、コウにとって最初で最後となる夏の甲子園を残すのみ、というところまで物語りは進みます。

前巻でコウと青葉の関係にあかねちゃんというスパイスが加わり、そして今回、東も隠し味として参戦しそうな雰囲気が無きにしも非ず・・。

ますます面白くなる四葉の青春ストーリ、12巻です！
