皆川亮二、待望の最新刊だ。前作までは少年漫画として発表していたが
ご存知の通り今作でウルトラジャンプに移籍、青年漫画としての発表になった。
まあ、といってもサンデーのときも青年漫画的な立ち位置だったし、
コミックスのサイズも同じだったので特に驚きもないが。
ちなみに講談社でも「ADAMAS」という作品を執筆している。

皆川亮二の作品というのは圧倒的な画力と渋くて格好いい展開、と同時に
ギャグが入ったゆったりとした日常描写もあって、それが個性になっているというのが
個人的な見解だが、この作品も今までの作品と同じようにその方法論で描かれていると
思う。ってか、今まで以上にそれがわかりやすい形で現れてるかもしれない。

主人公は普段は気の抜けた優しい人物であるし、ヒロインはかなり計算高い、でも
子供っぽいキュートな一面も併せ持つ良キャラ。またカイルという一応味方サイドの
キャラも面白い性格をしたキャラなので安心して皆川作品を楽しめる
登場人物たちが揃っている、という印象。
当然のごとく、決めるシーンでの格好良さは２割増しである！

一応、オーソドックスな西部劇であるがそこに少年漫画のような敵の一味を配置することに
よってバランスの良い構成を保っている。決して固い漫画ではないし、
むしろサクサク読めるネームを発揮してるので、今まで彼の漫画に触れたことのない人も
この機会に是非手にとって欲しい。また皆川作品好きも、もちろん楽しめる
フットワークの軽いとても良い漫画だと思った。

内容については他の方のレビュー同様、物語の幕開けで「さぁ、これから！」と言う感じ。
ストーリー等のバランスも良く読みやすい作品でした。
掲載雑誌は全く読んでおらず作者買いでしたが、今後も安心して購入できると思います。

私がこの単行本を買って最初にしたこと、それは本を閉じた状態の天・小口・地を見た事です。
他の漫画家の単行本と比べると圧倒的に白いと思われます。
皆川亮二の作品は最近になるにつれて段々とコマ割りがシンプルになっている気がして、
タチキリと呼ばれる紙の端いっぱいまで描くコマが少ないと思います。
このPEACE MAKERに至っては全く使われていないんじゃないでしょうか？
（小口で黒いのはサブタイトルの帯の部分のみ）

私が所有する他の漫画では高橋留美子の漫画が同じように白い小口でした。
（多分他にも沢山いらっしゃるでしょうが）
最近の少女漫画などは、やたらと変形ゴマを使用して「これを読者にどう読ませたいのか」という疑問が残る作品が多いです。

アクション漫画でこのシンプルで読みやすく、且つそれでいて動きも見せるコマ割り。
漫画家・皆川亮二の「読ませる漫画」という姿勢が見える気がしました。

主人公ホープは兄を捜す旅をしている天才ガンマン。
早撃ちの天才だが、生活力に欠けいつもお金に困っていたり
旅の途中でいかにも怪しそうな敵に、
自分の本名や兄の名前を簡単に教えてしまうなど
ちょっと間抜けで不用心なところがあります。

そんな彼の足りないところを、これまた天才賭博師であり
世間慣れした相棒のカイルが補完しているんですね。
２人はお互いに欠けたところを補いあう理想的なコンビで、
このふたりのやりとりが読んでいて楽しいです。

もうひとりの連れの少女ニコラには
物語の根幹にかかわる大きな謎がありそうなのですが、
この巻ではまだすべては明かされていません。

登場キャラクターたちの性格付けが、
名作「アームズ」にちょっとかぶるのがご愛嬌ですが
とても面白いです。まだ話が始まったばかりで
主要キャラがとりあえず顔見せした段階なので、
ストーリー的には続巻に期待というところです
