待望の柴田ヨクサル最新作。
出版元を白泉社から、集英社に移しての登場だ。
前作『エアマスター』は終盤になってやや失速した感があったので、多少心配なところもあったのだが…

抜群に面白い。恐れ入った。
「将棋×メイド」とテーマに新味はなく、絵もクセが強いが、そんなことは些末事でしかない。
06年に登場した新作コミックで、同作品に比肩しうるものはなかったと思えるくらいだ。

非常に個性的な作風にばかり目を奪われがちだが、ツカミ・ヒキ・緩急など、コミック作品としての基本的なクオリティも非常に高い。
この描写の確かさが、青天井ともいえるハイテンションを実現している。
読者は、ヨクサルの圧倒的な力にねじ伏せられるほかないだろう。

将棋が好きで好きでたまらず、しかも将棋が抜群に強い子供の、
さらに将棋が強かった子供だけがプロの登竜門である奨励会入りする。

しかし奨励会からプロになれるのはほんの一握り。大半の子供は青年となり、年齢制限によって社会に放り出される。
残ったものは将棋だけ。
「将棋しかない」。「20年間、将棋だけをやってきた」。
ハチワンダイバーの主人公は彼だ。
賭け将棋に身をやつした主人公に、転機が訪れる。
くすぶる情熱のほとばしり先は、ヒリヒリするような真剣勝負の世界だった。

読み始めると、圧倒的な迫力と怒涛の展開に引きずられていく。
ページをめくる手が止められない。
購入した日だけで結局、3回繰り返し読まされた。
そしてまた、知っているストーリーを味わいたくなる。そんな作品である。

やたらと評価が高いのでなんとなく買ってみたらば。
凄かった。
本当に凄かったです。
第一巻を読んですぐ本屋へ直行。既刊全部買いそろえました。

この作品、「情熱」の描き方にすごく説得力があります。
将棋マンガだけでなく、麻雀、ギャンブル、広くはスポーツまで、
物語の原動力になるのは主人公の「情熱」だと思います。

「情熱」は「大好きだ」という思いだったり、「これしかないんだ」という悲壮感だったりしますが、この作品の場合、「これしかないんだ」という主人公の感情にリアリティがあります。
将棋だけに賭けてきて挫折した、その姿をなんのてらいもなく描いてるからこそのリアリティだと思います。
全然格好つけてない。
だからここまで魅力的なんでしょう。

ここまで話が面白いと、絵の拙さが凄味にさえ感じます。

辛口レビュアーを気取ってる自分ですが、恥ずかしいほどのべたほめです。
ぜひ読んでください。
