この巻では、選手兼オーナーとなった渡久地の手で快進撃を続けるリカオンズと、
プロ野球界を牛耳るナベツネにより、カネにあかせてスター選手を集めることで
事実上のオールスターチームとなったマリナーズとの頂上対決が描かれています。

インターネット百科事典ウィキペディアでこの『ONE OUTS』の項を見ると、
10巻半ばまでのブルーマーズ戦以降は、常識外れの豪速球投手が味方として
登場するなど、主人公・渡久地がトリックや駆け引きを駆使して勝つという
本作品の持ち味が薄れたと書かれています。

確かに、二軍のお荷物三人組が都合よく秘めた力を発揮したり、現実のプロ野球
再編問題をなぞる展開は、この作品本来の路線から大きく外れたと感じさせます。
それでも、安易なご都合主義に流されてしまわずに、「勝つための理由」を
追い求め続けたことが、後半では特にこの巻によく表れていると思います。

大幅に戦力アップしたマリナーズに怖じ気づく味方の選手たちに対して、
渡久地が説く勝つための方法（出塁率の重要性、カウントによる打ち易さ等）は、
2003年にマイケル・ルイスが著した『マネー・ボール』で語られている内容です。
元々の「らしさ」を失ってもなお、そうした最新の野球理論を用いることに表れる、
根拠のない勝ち方をさせない、という意志は、やはり本作を
他の｢あらゆる野球漫画｣とは異色のすぐれた作品にしていると思うのです。

レビュータイトルは、野村カントクの名言のもじりになります。
曰く、「勝ちに不思議の勝ちあり、負けに不思議の負けなし」です。

天性の勝負師が、自らの勝負勘だけを頼りにプロ野球の世界で大活躍。
作者自らも認めるとおり、「アカギ」が主人公の野球マンガ、という感じ。
毎回さまざまな切り口から、野球というスポーツのルールの枠を
ギリギリまで突き詰めて状況設定しているのがおもしろい。

Lチケット導入により真のチームワークを知ったリカオンズは劇的に強くなった。
そんな中、ガラリアンズオーナー：田辺常行はリカオンズ潰しのため金に物言わせた
反則的トレードでマリナーズを強化する。

もともと強いマリナーズをさらに強くすることになったこのオールスターチーム化に
意気消沈するリカオンズだったが渡久地だけは彼らのプレー映像を見るや

「もろいな　このチーム」　と余裕の表情。

彼の余裕の根拠は？
取材嫌いで有名な渡久地が試合前と試合後に記者会見をするようになった理由と目的は？

この巻以降はマリナーズとの戦いがメインで描かれます。
ここまできたら最後まで買って読みましょう。面白いですから。
