　不定期連載のため１年に１冊しか発売されない『リアル』の４巻。しかし読んでいると、この不定期連載こそが漫画家の理想の環境なのではないか思う。締め切りに追われることもなく、そしてストーリーも細かくじっくりと煮詰めることができ、作家性を存分に伸ばせる。やはり一流の才能の持ち主にはこれぐらいの環境で描いてもらいたい。
　さて、この４巻では３人いる主人公のうち現時点で最もがむしゃらで前向きな男、戸川清春がほとんどメインで登場しており、車イスバスケとある男との出会いが丁寧に描かれている。残りの２人の先も考えるとまだまだ話は長くなりそうだが、忘れた頃に発売されるだろう新刊を焦らず心待ちにしたい。

三巻はリアルの喪失した高橋の話であったが、この巻はリアルの喪失した戸川の過去の話である。

陸上の短距離で才能を発揮し始めた戸川。そんな戸川に病気という残酷な現実が突きつけられる。

病気・事故・・・神様は本当にいるのか？そう勘ぐりたくなるのが、わたしたちのリアル（現実）である。誰一人、ここからは逃れられない。リアル（現実）という足枷は死ぬまでついてまわるのである。
その事実を受け入れられたときにはじめて、リアル（現実）と向き合うことが出来る。

戸川は同じ境遇の人間をみて、見失っていた自分をみつける。
その過程はとても痛々しい。リアル（現実）とは痛々しいものなのかもしれない・・・
その痛々しい現実に、私は涙を止めることはできなかった。

突然体が小刻みに震えると、思わず目頭に涙がたまる。
清春、自分の殻を打ち破って前に進んでゆく姿。
初めて乗った競技用の車椅子。
応援も同情も許されない。
だってみんなわかってるから。自分の力でなんとかしなきゃいけないこと。
徹底的に「リアル」だってこと。
