第三次カッパブームの現代、カッパを飼い始めたところから始まります。
かぁたんをはじめ、仔カッパたちがめちゃくちゃ可愛いです。
まだまだ成長中なので、少しお馬鹿なところも、めちゃくちゃ可愛いです。
喜ぶと、「ウケケケ」と笑います。
仲間を見ると、くちばしを「パコッ」と鳴らします。

わさびを食べさせると、赤くてめちゃくちゃ臭いウンチをします。
色々な特徴をもった仔カッパたちや、成長した大人のカッパ、そのまわりの人間たち。
みんなみんな可愛いので、気軽に読んでみてください。
絶対、カッパを飼いたくなります。

最近読み始め一気にハマって、購入に至りました。

内容は、東京で一人暮らしをする僕が「イエカッパ」（ペット用に養殖された河童）の「かぁたん」を育てていく成長日記です。
「かぁたん」かわいいです。
かわいければ何をやっても許される典型的なキャラクターです。

ストーリーは勿論のこと、嘘か真か紙一重の設定が面白いです。

「野良河童が巷にあふれ夜な夜な現れては、人間に『上手投げ』を横行する事件が続発！」
通り魔、痴漢、親父狩りじゃないんだ。しかも河童といえば、やっぱり相撲なのか？

「河童の名前ランキング4位『デビット』！」
それって「デビット・カッパーフィールド」じゃないのか？

「井原西鶴著『好色一代男』出版。西鶴の飼っていた蝦夷河童が後に『エロガッパ』の語源となる」
これ絶対にウソだろ！

というように、かぁたんの可愛らしさと、ツッコミどころ満載の設定を楽しむ漫画です。絶対オススメ。御一読あれ。

主人公の飼うカッパの、なんともいえないチャーミングな顔がいいですね。笑ってないんだけど、笑っているみたいなかわいいくちばし。猫や犬を飼っている方ならお分かりでしょうが、彼らの顔は無表情なんだけれど、人間の無表情とは違ってなんとも言えない憂いや愛嬌があります。
このマンガの設定はペットとしてカッパを飼うというあり得ない設定なのですが、ペットを飼ったことのある人なら共通してあるだろうペットと人との行き違いや、人間がペットに抱く切ない思いなんかが本当にうまく描かれていて、「あーーーうんうん」と頷かされるものがあります。また、人間の好きなままにされる非力なペットのようすの描写は、時々私たちの生活を痛烈に非難しているようにも思います。このマンガでペットを飼う人間たちの顔が描かれていないのは、きっと成功ですよね。私たちはどうしてもペットの視点から生活を考えてしまう。
特に主人公の田舎の実家で飼っている、おじいちゃんカッパの「カータン」は涙を誘います。私たちが忘れてしまった古き善き日本、みたいなものが彼の体からにじみ出てます。
なんだか反省させられます。
かわいくって、哀しくって、読んでいるだけで顔がいっぱい変化してしまうこの本。登場人物たちは無表情ですが、最近笑っていない人におすすめです。
