5.0 out of 5 stars 「バスケを愛する者」必読の書, 2002/9/26
連載を読んでいても買いたくなる本は早々無い。
この本は、その数少ないうちの一つである。

”スラムダンク”→”ブザービーター”と自らのバスケ愛を
表現し続けてきた作者が行き着いた先は、現実(リアル)だった。
主人公の一人である野宮の回想を通して描かれる部活動のシーンは
バスケを愛する者にとってはリアルすぎで涙ものだ。

もちろん、バスケを知らない人にもお勧めの本であることは間違いない。
先日、バスケを全く知らない義理の母にリアル１を見せたところ、
「２はまだなの」と急かされてしまったことから、そう確信した。
早速２を見せようとワクワクしているところなのだが、
「３は来年の秋なんだよ」と言わなければならならないのが
唯一残念なことではある。

車椅子バスケを舞台とした、異色のスポーツ漫画です。
しかし内容はただのスポーツものに留まりません。
この話のテーマ自体がバスケとは別の所にあるし、人間がしっかりと描かれた骨太な作品です。

この巻では、主人公の一人、車椅子バスケの選手、戸川清春の中学生時代、どうして片足を失ってしまったのかが、本の半分くらい使って描かれていますが、ストーリーを進めていく上で、主人公の過去の説明が丁寧に描かれていることによって、主人公の気持ちをより深く理解させてくれます。
老若男女問わず読んで欲しい作品です。

自分の肉体に起こることだけは、絶対に他人と共有できない。だから、体に起こることは、その人間にとって絶対的な現実となる。そして、生ある者は「生老病死」から逃げられない。「生老病死」は理不尽なものだ。「なぜ自分が」と問いかけても、答えはない。（戦争やテロなど人間が作りだす「理不尽」よりはずっとましだが。）

主人公三人はもちろん、描かれる人々すべてが存在感にあふれていて、それぞれの痛みや思いがまっすぐに伝わってくる。とりわけ、清春の父親には心を揺さぶられた。彼もまた、彼のリアルと格闘している。心の傷から血を流しながら。

読んでいるあいだ、頭のなかで鳴っていた言葉がある。ヴォネガットの小説で初めて知った、聖書のなかの一節だ。「神よ、私に与えてください。自分では変えることのできないものごとを受け入れる諦念と、変えることのできるものごとを変える勇気を。そしてその二つを見極める叡智を、常に」

「この体で行けるところまでは行った」と清春に話す山内の目は、きっと澄み切っていることだろう。人間はこんなにも強くなれる。彼は清春の道を照らす灯台だ。野宮や高橋、そして私たちの道も。

ページをめくるのが惜しいような作品。第三巻も心して読みいたいと思う。
