リュークと一時的に決別し、デスノートを手放して
キラとしての記憶を失ったライトと
ライトとミサをキラであると疑うＬがついに手を結ぶのが５巻の魅力。
ヨツバ商事編に突入してからは１~４巻よりも推理合戦が激しくなる
反面、プロの詐欺師やら泥棒やらが出てきたりしてちょっと
拍子抜けしてしまったが、もともと死神とかが出てくるマンガなので
それくらいは気にしちゃいけない。
ライバル同士であるライトとＬが手を組んで
ヨツバに加担する第三のキラを追う…というだけでわくわくする展開。
物語の方向性が微妙に進行方向を変えてきたのが
４巻なのかもしれない。人によっては「ヨツバ編から面白くなくなった」
とい人もいるかもしれないが、ライトの計画は静かに進行しているのだ。
この巻にはレムが出てくるものの、リュークの出番がしばらくなくなる。
それが個人的にちょっと残念…くらい。面白さは変わらない。

この巻のライトは、いい人。
私はキラのライトも好きだが、
こちらのライトも大変魅力的だ。

１冊のノートが、一人の人間を
こうも変えてしまったとは。
人間の弱さがうかがえる。

個人的には、ヨツバ編の展開はキャラの性格や心情を捉えにくいデスノートにあって、
それが可能な箇所として重要な意味を持っているという気がします。
特に、この後の展開を知ると、ヨツバ編の持つ意味は、
単なる捕り物帳としての意味よりも、Lと月の儚い友情にあるんじゃないかと思えます。
ただ、残念なことに、作者がそれを書ききれていません。
ヨツバ編が退屈に感じる人は、デスノートのもう一人の主人公、Lに注目してみてください。
意外に思われるかもしれませんが、おそらく、デスノートに登場する人物の中で、もっとも人間くさい設定のなされている人物です。
彼の月に対する微妙な感情の変化に注目してみてください。
容疑者としての疑いを持ちつつも、警戒を解いていく様子や、
友人に対するような気遣いを見せ始める箇所を探してみてください。
同時に、純粋な月の、Lに対する邪心のない友情にも注目してみてください。
後々の衝撃をさらに大きなものとして感じることができます。
そして、面白いという評価が、感情を強く揺さぶられることに対してなされるのであれば、
読み返してみたとき初めて、これらの巻を面白いと感じることができると思います。
