第二のキラが登場し、どうなるのだろうと思った先から次々と新しい展開が。
もう4巻だし、そろそろネタも出尽くして話も終わりに向かうかな、なんて思ったら大間違いです。
予想もつかないようなストーリーがハイテンポで進行し、Lとキラとの心理戦も健在で、もうとにかく面白い。
よくここまで緻密な話が作れるなあと、毎度ながら感心してしまいます。

　前回までキラ対Ｌの心理戦、頭脳戦として十分楽しめた本作だが、そこに第二のキラと言う新しいキャラが加わる事で様相は一変。さらにスリリングな展開となった。
　キラ対Ｌは知性的で冷静と言う共通点を持ったタイプだけに互いの手の内を読み合う面白さがあったが、第二のキラ、海砂は気分で行動するタイプなので予測が不能。この不可測の要素が加味されるとキラの戦略には様々なほころびが生じてしまう。前の巻ではキラ対Ｌのテニスのシーンがあったが、この巻の展開をテニスにたとえるなら歪んでどう弾むか予測できないポールでテニスをしているようだ。そんな、ハイレベルの頭脳戦を破綻させる歪みの面白さがこの巻にはあると思う。

ミサ登場から監禁編冒頭までを収録した単行本第4巻。

表紙にもあしらわれたミサ＆レムという重要な新キャラクター2人の登場がこの
巻の目玉。ほぼ全ての収録エピソードがミサ＆レムに関するもので、分量的に、
この巻と来年に出る5巻で「ミサ編 前・後」ということになると思われる。

「やや頭の軽いゴスロリ少女」という、この漫画の世界からすると異質なキャラク
ターを、準主役クラスの重要な脇役として登場させ、なおかつメインストーリーで
あるキラ事件に関する状況も、ミサの登場によってかなり核心に迫る段階まで進
展・激変することになる。このインパクトのある新キャラクターと、大きく状況を動
かす新展開のため、2~3巻あたりの「そろそろ事件にオチをつけないと、ダレて
きちゃうよ？」といった感じをかなり解消している。

とにかくミサとレムが前面に出た章で、ほぼこの2人とそれに対応する月を中心と
した話ばかりのため、リュークや月パパ、話によってはLも含めて、他のキャラク
ターの印象は薄め。またこれまでの単行本の中ではじめて月が（具体的な描写と
しては）誰も人を殺さない。

ミサ編が終了した後、現在雑誌連載で進行している、「月 vs Lの対決」という本筋
から大きく外れた（おそらくは連載を長続きさせるための）中継ぎ的なシリーズに
突入することを考えると、続巻とあわせて本筋における第1のクライマックス（の前
編）に相当する巻。

これまで通り面白く、新キャラを中心にこの巻ならの面白さもあるのですが、1巻の
頃とはかなり違った漫画になってきたなという印象。
