　1st.STAGEは短距離スプリントレース。
　まず飛び出したのはジャイロ・ツェペリ。
　「ジョジョ」ファンとしては、アヴドゥルが（前巻で）いきなり脱落してしまったが残念。重要そうでいて、じつはチョイ役だったのかぁ！（笑）　このへんは荒木さんの遊び心かな。
　ジャイロを追いかけるのは、英国競馬界の俊英騎手、ディオことディエゴ・ブランドー。なんと馬のクセを利用して猛追！　かたやジャイロは「鉄球」の技術を使って引き離しにかかる。

　そして、この巻のみどころのひとつは、ポコロコ。おもしろすぎ！（笑）
　「ラッキーなのは、落馬だったぁ！」
　驚きのジャイロ。
　「なにかの『能力』でなくては…………こんな事は出来ないッ！」

　白熱のレース展開。
　ジャイロ、ディオ、サンドマン、ポコロコ、ジョニィ。
　スプリントレースを制するのは誰だ？！
　1st.STAGE決着！

第１ステージのゴールまで。
この巻になると、この話がツェペリ、ジョジョ、ディオ、砂男、そしてあっさりリタイアしたアヴドゥルはニセモノで、こっちが本物のアヴドゥルだと言わんばかりのポコロコ、この５人の競争だということが分かってきます。

次々にやってくる難所を、知略と機転とテクニックで攻略するというのは、レースものの王道的展開。

これまでの＜ジョジョ＞に比べ、常に動き続けのレースなので、じっくりとした駆け引きが楽しめないのが多少残念ではありますが、それは今後の展開に期待するとしましょう。
馬を下りての駆け引きもあるかもしれませんから。

奇跡や根性に頼らないレースという、（良い意味で）あまりない話です。

第一巻と同時に発売された第二巻。
一巻ではあまり活躍しなかったディエゴ・ブランドー（DIO）も登場。
特殊な「能力」は無いが、騎手としての経験を活かし主人公ジャイロを追う！
果たして１stステージを勝利するのは…？

レースが軸の漫画だが馬について詳しくなくても充分楽しめる。
登場人物も妙に説明じみた台詞を言ったりするのでそこも面白い。

アメリカが舞台であるがフィートではなくメートル式に直されていたり読みやすいよう工夫もされている。
読者が置いてけぼりになる漫画が多い中ここまで徹底されているのは読者への愛の表れだ。
「ジョジョ」を知ってる方には勿論、知らない方も世界観に慣れれば充分楽しめると思います。
