桜川雲泉や佐久間象山が治療中に見た夢（南方仁が生きていた西暦2000年当時の東京）のエピソードを軸に、南方が幕末の江戸へとタイム・スリップした当初の事件の謎へと一旦立ち返る作品。全巻の中でも間奏曲的な性格を帯びた作品ということにでもなるのであろうか。

ちなみに、当方が読んだ版（2008年10月8日 第4刷）では、巻末も含め「助手の咲の母親が脚気に倒れてしまい、治療を一切拒む母を思う仁と咲がお菓子で治そうとする」シーンは出てきませんでした。

西郷隆盛を始め、沖田総司、近藤勇、土方歳三、そして一橋慶喜。
江戸末期を動かしていく人物が医師　南方の前に登場していきます。

主に京都の大火を舞台にした巻ですが、時代の動きを感じさせる内容になっています。
西郷が虫垂炎であったり陰のう水腫だったり、坂本龍馬と時を添い遂げるお龍だったり。

新たに出てきた芸子の小菊はこれからも登場するのでしょうか。なんらかの伏線なのか？
と思わずにはいられませんが、おそらく関係はないのでしょうね（笑）

巻末では、助手の咲の母親が脚気に倒れてしまいますが、治療を一切拒む母を思う
仁と咲。お菓子で直そうと試みます。

さて、結果はいかなるものか。次巻も大きく時代が動きそうですし。楽しみです。

　主人公の南方仁は、絵師の腕の手術中、絵師のうわごとから現代と幕末との時空間のつながりを予感します。その後、瀕死の佐久間象山の治療をすることになった仁は、象山自身も少年期に木から落ちたときに現代にタイムスリップしたことを知ります。仁が幕末にタイムスリップした謎自体への興味関心を煽られました。
　幕末の動乱が始まった京へ舞台を移し、西郷隆盛の虫垂炎を治すことになって次巻へと続きます。
