いわずと知れた日本漫画の代表作ドラゴン・ボール。世界市場でも大人気の大作。冒険あり、バトルあり、ユーモアあり、そしてなんといっても７つのボールを集めて夢を叶えるというファンタジーが多くの人の心を惹きつけました。天真爛漫だけどバカ力で周りを圧倒する孫悟空と同じく武芸に励み時には友人となり時には敵となるサブキャラクター達も魅力満点です。
本作では野盗のヤムチャや暴れ者の牛魔王と出会いながらドラゴンボールを探す悟空たち。やっと六個集めたが最後の一個を持っていたのは、世界征服を企むピラフ。ドジって閉じこめられた悟空の目の前に・・・。

ドラゴンボールの捜索をベースに様々な敵が出現。敵との戦いも魅力的ですが、その合間の修行、武道会、サブストーリー等全てが面白!く、またキャラクター画が鳥山先生独特でかっこいい。そんな日本の名作漫画を読まないのは損ですし、昔読んだ方が再び読んでも面白いと思える普及の名作です。

この巻は本当に内容が濃いです。ピラフにドラゴンボールを奪われて、シェンロンを呼び出されてしまったり、満月を見たゴクウは大猿に変身したりその他色々。この後ドラゴンボールを読んでくうえで、これは絶対に読まなければいけません。

今では押しも押されぬ大ヒット作ですが、初期の作品を見ておりますとテスト的な要素もあったのではないかな、と感じられます。１〜２巻で一つの完結になっています。反響しだいで継続もあり、打ち切りもありという状況だったのではないかと思います。そういう意味で、やはりこの１〜２巻が原点、魅力が詰まったものになっているのではないでしょうか。そのせいか、非常にテンポよく物語が進みますし、練られたものであったように感じます。面白いです。
