カルロス・ゴーン日産自動車社長兼CEO(最高経営責任者)の妻が記した、家族の絆と誇りの書。まずは自らの半生と、ゴーン氏との出会いのエピソードを綴る。レバノン・ベイルートで生まれ、内戦の惨劇を目の当たりにしながらも学問に励みフランスへ留学。そこで、当時ミシュランに所属していたゴーン氏と運命的な出会いを果たし、彼のプロポーズを受けて結婚。彼の転勤先であるブラジル、米国で3女1男を儲け、子育てに専念しながらも、「ゴーン家」という唯一無二の家庭作りに尽力した。

生活は決して順風満帆ではなかったと振り返り、例えば嫁姑問題に触れる。最愛の息子を奪われたと感じている義母との軋轢は苦しいものではあったが、決して愚痴をこぼさず、義母に対してもいつかは分かり合えるという気持ちで尊敬する態度を取り続けたと言う。こうした暮らしの中でゴーン家は「25の家訓」を得た。長女を甘やかしてしまった経験からは「過剰な愛情は誰のためにもならない」と言い、「平日は家でテレビを見せない」というしつけも家訓となった。また、「家族の大きな決定は、必ず夫婦ふたりの同意で」「母親が幸せならば、家族全員が幸せである」と言い、家庭を守る妻としての尊厳をうたう。

カルロスゴーンの人気にあやかって出てきたかもしれないが
そんなもの気にしない。内容は、とてもいい。
たぶん、昭和の初期ごろまでは、日本でもあたりまえだった
だろう、ということが書いてある。

真実はいつか伝わる。だからいらぬ弁解は不要。
できる範囲許せる範囲を伝える。そうして互いにそのルールを守る。
ダメはダメ。子どもに節度を教える。
躾は大切。−−−そうだよ。ぜったい。
悪い点は曖昧にしない。きちんと責任を取らせる。
自分で考えさせる。
手に入れるためには代価が必要なことを理解させる
一家の団らんと対話が大切。

もちろん、彼女の人生からもたくさん学べる。
いい本だよ。

この本を読んで「あぁ…外国人だなぁ…」と思いました。
良く言えば自分の信念を貫き通す意志の強い人、
悪く言えば自分の考えに凝り固まった人という印象。
周りと合わせたがる日本人ではあまりいないタイプです。
ゴーン家の家訓と言うよりは
「私はこうなのよぉ!」という感じで
読んでて爽快な気持ちにはなりますが、
特に何の参考にもならないような…。
ただ、レバノンでの内戦を経験している著者の言葉に、
平和な国の人間の私は考えさせられる物がありました。

最初は，夫の七光りで書かれた本かと思って読み始めました。が，違うことにすぐ気づきました。この妻あってのカルロス･ゴーン。リタさんが妻じゃなかったら，ここまでの経営者にはなっていなかったかもとまで思わせました。妻として,母として，プロフェッショナルに生きる彼女。19歳でゴーン氏の人となりを見抜き，結婚を決意したのもすごいけど，言葉も通じないブラジルについていって，ゴーン家の人ばかりの中で，特に姑の介入で二人の時間も持てず,凡人だったら逃げて帰ってる状況で，対処した彼女。どうして19歳でそんなに大人なんだ。また,彼女の本当にすごいのは,そのあとで，仕事が忙しく,家庭を顧みる時間が持てない夫に,切れて離婚する妻が多い中，「重要な任務を果たすべく,一生懸命働いている夫に,手伝えなんていえない。彼が家にいるときは，家庭が天国であるようにした。」とか，「妻は夫が父親になる手伝いをする。」などなど，誇りを持って妻業をなさっているんだと思いました。また,子育ても，お金持ちの家ながらもしっかり金銭感覚を教えたり,子供が自立して生きていけるよう，その時うらまれてもしつけに徹する，深い愛情をリタさんから学ばされました。妻だけがプロでも夫婦はもちろんなりたたないと思いますが,しかし,MR ゴーンも彼の著書で，妻に対して同じ心意気で接しておられることを，書かれておられました。世の結婚生活がこうであれば,世の中もっと平和になることだと思いました。
