荒俣宏の本を高校時代に友人から薦められて読む様になって、妖怪などにも興味を持っていた自分が次に読んだ本がこれだった。
目からウロコが落ちるような、荒俣宏らしい解説がとても気に入った。
しかし、「日本…」というタイトルを謳って起きながら、東京を中心とした筑波など関東方面ばかりのウエイトが大きいのがやや気になる。いつ、このシリーズの次作が出るかわからないが、もう少し全国の怪異を取り上げて欲しいものだ。
