私設の美術館に勤める２８歳の節子の心の動きと日常を等身大で描いた作品である。
恋にも走れず、何が何でも結婚を……！というほどの願望もなく、出会う男性に
「この人と結婚するかも」という気持ちを抱いては失望することの繰り返しにも疲れた節子は、
もうそんなことを二度と思わないでいようと決意する。

でも、人は生きて普通に暮らすなかで、人と出会い続けるもの。

食べることにまつわるいくつかのシーンがあるが、これで節子という人物がよくわかる。
結構、繊細で気を使う女性だ。特に外食に対する、メニュー写真と出てきた料理の
ギャップに失望するあたり、誰しも覚えがあることだろうし、さりげなくリアルで
おもしろく感じた。

平凡な印象の節子だが、ゆっくりと自分をみつめていく。
そして、ラスト近く、「私にとっておいしいもの」を考え考えするうちに、気づくことがある。
楽しいと感じることがおいしいということ。その気づきに背中を押されるように、
次のステージへ一歩を踏み出したみたい。

「ケイタリング・ドライブ」は、テンポよく進むロード・ノベル風作品。
こちらはタイトルどおり料理にまつわる、恋の話。
独り語りで、どんどん進む話がおもしろおかしく展開する。
自信と不安がないまぜの心中は、まだまだ青春だ。
最後はどうやら確かなものに思い至ったようで、ちょっと安易だがさわやかに話が終わる。

中島たい子さん。人の普遍的な心理を独特のおかしみを織り交ぜつつ、すくいとるのが
うまいな。

恋人のいないカン違い女を描く「この人と結婚するかも」。
また、同じように恋人のいないカン違い男を描く「ケイタリング・ドライブ」の二編を収録。

「この人と結婚するかも」「この人と付き合うかも」なんて思い込みは
誰でも一度は経験したことがあるはず。
2人に独身時代の自分の姿を重ねてしまい、
苦笑してしまうようなかわいらしい作品でした。

どちらの主人公も勘違いや妄想に走りすぎて、
なかなか現実的な恋に至りません。
でもねぇ、無事に恋愛をして結婚できた今の私だから言えるのかもしれないけど、
こんな勘違いや妄想も恋愛の面白さじゃないのかな。

これまで中島たい子さんといえば、
20〜30代の女性が興味を持つテーマばかりを上手に選んで書いてきた人だけど、
今回は男性が主人公のお話もアリ。
読み始めたばかりの段階では裏切られたような気がしてしまったけど、
男性の気持ちもリアルに書ける人ですね。
でもやっぱりこの人には
女性の気持ちを描く「女性の味方」であってほしいなぁ。

　些細な出来事で「この人と結婚するかも」と勘違い。漫画家の個人美術館に勤める女性の表題作と、妄想一杯で友人宅へのケータリングに向かう29歳の男性を主人公にした「ケータリングドライブ」の2編を収録。

　どちらも、頭の中で自分の気持ちを分析しつつあっちへふらふら、こっちへふらふらと落ち着きません。こういう状態の時に恋愛なんて考えるとどこまでも妄想が暴走してしまうんですよね。
　男性の気持ちも女性の気持ちも機微をとらえた表現で、読んでいてイラッとさせられることもなく読み終えました。

　中島たい子さんの作品は初めて読みましたが、巧いなぁと思いました。
