老犬介護という素材や登場人物たちの個性がとてもユニークで、面白い物語となってはいるんですが、一つひとつがしっかりと結びついていないという印象。もっといい話になるはずなのにという気がしてしまう。やはり書き込んでないからでしょう。ただ、こんなに魅力的なキャラクターを創造する作家のこれからが楽しみです。

書店で見て、なんとなく表紙の犬の絵に惹かれるものを感じて購入。
青春小説系はたくさんあるので、正直あまり期待しないで読み始めたのですが…。はまりました。

愛犬家であれば避けて通ることのできない「愛犬の老後」と「介護」。
老いた愛犬「ハル」の下の世話をしながら淡々と生きる、「何事にも熱くなれない高校生」の「行」。
そんな「行」と、両親の離婚で別れて暮らしていた姉の「園」が、「ハル」の介護を通して、
「あえて見ないようにしていた」「避けて通ってきた」自分の問題に、まっこうからぶつかっていこうと決心します。
言葉にしてしまうと陳腐ですが、そのプロセスが、細やかな文体で爽やかにつづられていてとても共感しました。
「ついつい人のファッションチェック、私もやってるよなー」とか思いながら。

みんなの思いを背負った「ハル」が「還っていく」。
じんわりと胸にしみるラストもナイスです。

犬が好きで、つい表紙の絵に惹かれて買ってしまいました。
こういう人いるいる、とか頷きながら軽い気持ちでどんどん読み進めていったら、最後、以外にもじわっとしてしまいました。
私も犬を飼っているので、介護の様子など、たまりませんでした。はるが二人に教えてくれた、気づかせてくれたものが、私の心にもずっと残っている気がします。
犬好きの方にはぜひ！読んでほしい本です。
