　4月末に集英社文庫から再刊されたユニークなタイトル『黒笑小説』（この分野の作品は本書を含めて3冊あり、3部作をなしている）。計13本の（黒い）笑いに満ちた痛快な短編が所収されている。「東野圭吾の作風は幅広い」とはよく聞く文句であるが、こういうジャンルにおいても作品の質を決して落とすことなく、読者に期待通りの（いやそれ以上の）満足感を与えてくれるのだから、東野圭吾という作家の力量に感心するばかりだ。ひまひとつ「落ち＝黒笑」がしっくりこなかった作品（私にとっては「シンデレラ白夜光」）もあったが、ほとんどすべてがかなりの出来栄えである。

　巻末の「解説」にあるように、最初の4作品（「もうひとつの助走」、「線香花火」、「過去の人」そして「選考会」）は、作家自身の赤裸々な心情や彼が置かれている立場・過去の経験を軽快に綴った傑作品である。そもそも作家の苗字が「寒川」という時点で読者のほとんどは笑っているであろう。その意味でも、第4作品である「選考会」の真意―実は作家先生といわれる寒川らが「選考」されている―に全く無防備な彼らの姿は実に面白い。その後のちょっと意表を付くシモネタ的な作品も不快感など全く感じない。「モテモテ・スプレー」の最後の一文、「タカシは博士を殴り倒した」には思わず声を出して笑ってしまった。仮に自分がそういう状況になったならば同じような行動に出たかもしれないなと思ったほどだ。

　文庫版の表紙に載っている東野圭吾の顔写真からはこうした作風を惜しげもなく淡々と描き出すような作家にはみえない。人間にはさまざまな顔があると言われるが、特に作家に妥当するのかもしれない。本書以前に読んだ作品が『使命と魂のリミット』という緊迫感・臨場感に富んだ医学サスペンス（人間サスペンス）であったために、本書との（いい意味での）「落差」が私には心地よかった。それにしても「黒笑」か、うまいネーミングだ。

毒筆が冴え渡る１３の短編集です。下ネタから文壇裏事情まであり、とても気楽に読める一作です。
笑いがほしい時お勧めです。

ありそうでなさそうな、あるいは本当にありそうな話を集めた13編の短編集。
爆笑と言うよりはクスリと笑うという感じだろうか。
作品のテイストとしては、奥田英郎の「空中ブランコ」に近い。

アニメのキャラクター商品に振り回される「臨界家族」は、身につまされた。
2時間程度の移動のお供に最適な作品である。
