短編集なんですが・・・・不思議な読後感でした。
作者の頭の中の物語のイメージにかなり近い形で
文章が成立している感じがするというか・・・・
イメージがすごくストレートに伝わってきました。
感動して滂沱の涙を流すというタイプの本ではないですが
なんか変。なんか面白い。なんか印象に残る。
楽しいけど切ない。うれしいけど哀しい。
絶望の中の希望。刹那と永遠。
もどかしくも気持ちいい。
本の中の物語がそれぞれに生きていて。
一個の生き物みたいに、うごめいている。
うう・・上手くいえなくてもどかしい（笑）
お値段高めですけど、おすすめです。

　157頁の中に19の話。ということからも分かるように、一編が長くても10頁くらいのショート・ストーリー。不思議で奇妙な味がする掌編ばかりの作品集です。

　妖精の足跡を捕獲しようとする男。
　生後六ヶ月で文字を読み始めた赤ん坊。
　人間ではなく、猫を生んだぼくの叔父夫婦。
　車のトランクの中に入ったまま出てこない人。

　不可解な状況をまるごと受け入れ、あれあれと考える暇もあればこそ、いつしかその世界に馴染んでいる主人公たち。彼らが語る変てこりんで不思議な体験談はあたかも、想像のタネがふっくり膨らんでいって、その辺にポーンと放り出されたかのよう。
　話のいくつかは、「ここからさらに話が始まっていく……」「つづく……」みたいな結末になっていて、そういう“はなしっぱなし”風の余韻て言ったらいいかな、その味が何とも不思議で清々しくていいなと思いました。

　19のショート・ストーリーのなかでも気に入った話が四つあって、そのうちの三つに猫が出てきて重要な役割を果たします。とても短い話ばかりだし、「この話に猫が出てくるんだな」とあらかじめ知ってしまう、それだけでこれから読む方の興を削いでしまう気がしたので、その作品のタイトルは書かないことにします。

　本の帯に記された<< すごい書き手。こんな作家が英語圏にいたら即、訳したい。――柴田元幸氏　翻訳家 >>の言葉にも、かなりインパクトを感じて読み始めたのですが……。この作家の掌編、もっと読んでみたくなりました。

　中ではめちゃめちゃ軽いかな。しかし、こういうのを読むといかに村上春樹に影響を受けているかわかる。たとえば、片山恭一とか伊坂幸太郎とか大崎善生みたいに直截的に書くんじゃなくて、村上春樹の要素を抽出して、自分の中で完璧に昇華している。村上春樹チルドレンの中じゃ、そういう意味で舞城王太郎にいちばん近いんじゃないでしょうか。
　本書は古川日出男の入門書として最適だろう。アビシニアンよりも。しかし、文章のうまさが本当よくわかる。うますぎ。物語にあわせて文章を変えているんですけど、これ読んだあとにサウンドトラックとか読むとびっくりするかも。
　村上春樹の『カンガルー日和』みたいなあったかくて不思議な掌編集です。
