椎名誠の本はエッセイがとても気に入っている。
何故だろうか？
おそらくそれは生活に密着していて、自分の人生や生活感と
照らし合わせる楽しみが味わえるからだと思う。
本書はエッセイというより私小説である。
これはもっといい。著者の生活感をもろに味わう事ができる。
どこまでがフィクションでどこまでがノンフィクションかは

椎名誠を読み込んだ人ほどわかると思うが、わからないままのほうが
いいのかもしれない。
この本を読む前、著者は「かえっていく場所」を見つけたのだと思っていた。
しかし読み終わると、もう帰っていくべき場所はないのだと
著者は言っているかのようだった。

一見、華やかに思われる人気作家の苦悩に満ちた日々の生活をつづっている。モンゴル、スコットランドなど世界各地を旅しながらも、心の空虚が満たされることはない。
いつもの明るい軽快なエッセイがシーナさんの「光」の部分であるならば、このエッセイはいわばシーナさん自身の心の内面「影」の部分を綴ったものかもしれない。シーナファンなら必読の書です。
