著者の村山由佳さんは、この作品の後の作品で直木賞を受賞されただけあって、とても文章力のある作家さんだなと思いました。特に描写が巧で、情景描写、心理描写ともすばらしく、小説の世界にす~っと入っていくことができ、どんどん引き込まれていきます。それだけ期待しながら読み進めていただけに、ラストがあまりに唐突で安易な印象を受け、どこか消化不良な気がしました。執筆途中で力つきてしまったんじゃないかという気さえしました。これだけの力がある作家さんならもっとラストを描きこめたのではないか、と思います。まだこの作品しか読んでいないので、次の作品に期待したいです。とはいえ、切ないラブストーリーが好きな人には十分おすすめできる作品だと思います。

私は天使の卵大好きです。読み終わった後にボロボロ泣いてしまいました。本当に久しぶりに心から泣ける話です。この本を読んでから、私は村山さんの虜になってしまいました。
最近泣ける本に出会ってないあなたにものすごくお勧めの一冊です。
(心から泣いて欲しいので、話の内容は書きません。）

天使の卵と共に、私は青のフェルマータをお勧めします。この本でも泣かされてしまいました。村山さんの本はどの本も心がギュッと締め付けられるものばかりです。

　村山さんの原点とも言うべき作品。のちの傑作群もこの作品に通じるところが多々あります。「おいしいコーヒーの入れ方」シリーズがその筆頭。
　彼女の小説のパターンで多いのは、年上の女(ひと)に思いを寄せる男の子。ありがちな設定ですが、村山さんはその男の子の感情を表現するのがとても巧い、ということ。人にもよると思いますが、主人公の男の子に感情移入がとてもしやすく、男性が読んでもとても面白い恋愛小説になっています。
　文体も優しく綺麗な文章で、物語のせつなさをいっそう際立てています。
　ラストは唐突に訪れて、悲しい出来事が起こるのですが、読後はせつないながらも、感動の涙でうるうるしますよ。私の一番好きな恋愛小説です。
　なおこの作品は「天使の梯子」という続編が書かれており、執筆と同じように、物語も彼らの10年後が描かれています。そちらを読むとより一層こちらの作品の感動度が上がりますので、ぜひ一読をお勧めします。
