「人生と人生の間には川がある。

僕がつねにこっち側で生きているように、
そして茉莉ちゃんがそっち側で生きているように、
ぼくたちはお互いの人生を見ることができないよね。

人間の数だけ岸辺があるんだと思う。

だからぼくはいつも岸辺に立って、
あなたや、会えない家族、友人らのことを思うのです。」


女性視点の『左岸』、
そしてこの『右岸』。

これから読むなら、江國の『左岸』から読むことをお勧め。
でも、男性にはあまり面白みがないかも。

辻の『右岸』は、相当よかった。
登場人物もそれぞれが描いても（たとえば青山志津夫のような共通のサブキャラ）同じ雰囲気をちゃんとまとっていたり、
逆に、
同じ情景を描いていても、見えてくる風景の色合いや空気感が異なっていたりと面白い。

晩年の七に対する九の感情は、
辻の、環境をめぐる世界とメディアに対する警鐘にも感じた。


この「対」の作品を読んでいて、
人って結局こういうものだな、と思った。

全く異なる山中で生まれた一滴の雫たちが、
それぞれ流れになり、出会い、
ひとすじの川となったその両岸に立つ、


そういうことが、奇跡なんだと思う。


人は人の別のストーリィを生きていて、
だからこそすれ違いや葛藤があるけれど、
それを包括して、寄り添い生きてくことがいかに奇跡であるか、
すごく遠回りしながら気づく物語です。

辻らしい独特な描写で描かれた一冊。約5年半もの連載のすえまとめられた作品。主人公九を筆頭に、登場する全てのキャラクターへの感情移入が難しく、年代こそわかるものの時代がつかみづらく物語に入りづらかった。500ページを超える大作ではあるものの、「冷静と情熱のあいだ」以来の江國とのコラボ作品として期待しただけがっかりだった。

冷静と情熱の間の最強コンビ再び。
九と茉莉、そしてそれをとりまく周りの登場人物。
「右岸」を読んでから「左岸」を読んだのですが、
あまりにせつなく、あまりにも冷酷なストーリー
に思わず涙がこぼれおちました。
両方読んだあとまた読み返したくなる作品です。
