ストーリーの面白さだけでなく、
読書することの喜びや、知的興奮を感じさせてくれる一冊。
これを読んだ人は誰もがバルセロナに行きたくなるだろう。
（この本に付いてる地図を見ながら街を歩く人もいるのでは？）
海外小説の割には、恋愛についての描写が些かセンチメンタルで甘ったるい感じがしないでもない。（まあ、日本人の好みに合っているかも・・）
また、途中ややテンポが遅い感じもあったものの、
お勧めの一冊という点で星５つにしました。
（特に読書が好きな人にはお勧め）

間違いなく、本年のベスト1（個人的に）！
少年が、大人になって行く成長物語の中に渦巻く、謎、サスペンス、恋物語、そして暗闇に暗躍する謎の怪人！

これだけでわくわくなのですが、本当に面白い！上下800ペ−ジ以上を一度も飽きさせずに読ませる、その文体も、しっとりとノスタルジ−にあふれ、質の良いヨ−ロッパ映画を観ているような、夢見心地にさせてくれる。

不幸や、復習に満ちた作品なのに、最後にはすばらしい人生を感じさせてくれる。
本当にこの作品に巡り合えてよかったと思う

主人公「ダニエル」が一冊の本を手に入れたことから物語が始まります。
その本の作者「フリアン」の謎と過去が徐々に明らかになっていきます。

この本は、ミステリー、サスペンス、恋愛等色々な要素が入っており、様々な人生が描かれています。

上巻のテンポが遅すぎて冗長な感は否めませんが、一気に色々な謎が解けていく下巻はテンポ良く読み進めていけますし、丁寧な描写も相まって全体を通して評価すれば優れた作品と言えるでしょう。
上巻は、色で例えるとセピア色で、下巻の後半からカラーになるという感じですかね。

舞台はスペインの内戦後の時代ですが、ある程度この時代の文化的背景が分っている、良く理解しながら読み進める事が出来ると思います。
そういう意味では、訳者のあとがきを先に読んでから、本編を読み始めるのも一興かと思います。
