ムッシュー氏とその周辺の人々。みんなどこかおかしく魅力的。
流れに身を任せて、ゆらゆらと優雅に日々を過ごすムッシュー。
ドロドロした人間関係なんてどこ吹く風。フィアンセに新しい恋人ができても我関せず。
そんなムッシューの身に次々と厄介事が降りかかる・・・。

タチの“ユロ伯父さん”やローワン・アトキンソンの“ミスタービーン”のようなちょっと変わった独身男のキャラクターものとして楽しめる。
ビーンのような飛び道具的ギャグではなくて、淡々としたぶっきらぼうな文から湧いてくる軽いユーモア。
初対面で相手が何者なのか分からない時や相手の真意を探る時のぎこちない微妙な掛け合いが所々で描かれていて面白い。
街全体が停電中のレストランでの１コマや屋根に上って夜空を見上げる場面など、シュールでロマンチックな雰囲気も良い。
キャラクターやストーリーに何かもう一押しほしいような気がするけど、可愛くておかしく後味がいい。

これを読んだのは、出版されてすぐのことなので、かれこれ７，８年前になりますが・・・。それでも、覚えているエンディングの言葉。
「人生は、ムッシュウにとって○○○○○○○○。」
目立とうとはせず、ひっそりと生活し、ちょっと問題があっても、マイペースにやり過ごす。この、力の抜けた感じがなんとも、コミカルです。

思わず、にやりとしてしまいます。

人生、問題にぶち当たると深刻に考えて落ち込みがちですが、こういうの読むと、少しだけ力が抜けそうな、楽にしていいような、そんな気持ちになります。

それは、ともかく、何も考えずに楽しめる作品です。

面白かった。可愛らしい小説。
優しい優しいムッシュー。デビウ作の「浴室」と比べて、どっちが良い出来かといえば浴室だけど、浴室の主人公よりムッシューの方が好き。
すぐ読めてふんわりとした、ムッシューの不器用な恋物語です。
