繊細なハンスの心の変遷が興味深い。
周りの大人たちにに翻弄されながら悩み苦しむハンス。
ハンスの苦悩を見ていると幸せってなんだろう？　と考えさせられる。
同著者の「幸福論」とあわせて読んでみてもいいかもしれない。

タイトルどうり、重く暗い話です。秀才の少年が神学校に入学したが、そこから様々な影響を受け、教育という車輪の下に潰される悲しい話です。主人公ハンスの苦しみを周りの人間はほとんど理解しないところに憤りを覚えましたが、現在でも身近の人間が知らず知らずにこう言った秀才の人間を押し潰しているところはあるんじゃないでしょうか。子供を教育するに当たって読んで損はない本です。自分はこの本は７回以上読みましたが、何回読んでも考えさせられます。中学校のとき初めて読んだこの本、大きくなっても忘れられない一冊です。

優秀で何もかも上手くいっていたはずの人生から転落し、周りの人間に遅れをとってしまったハンス。
マラソンでトップから、アクシデントで最下位になってしまったような悲しさ。
現代の教育界にも疑問を投げかける一作。個性的な人間や天才的な人間が苦しむことのないような教育が望まれます。
