主人公の透は、転校を繰り返すうちに、自分の心に殻を作り、閉じこもってしまう。
次第にその殻は厚くなり、自分はずっと殻のなかに閉じこもっている。
その方が楽なんだと思う。
転校するごとに友達を作ろうと努力し、それが達成されないうちにまた次の学校へ。
転校は当然ながら親の意向であり、子供にはどうすることもできない。
だったら、自分は無駄な努力をするより、何もしない方が楽でいい。
親にも無意味な反抗はせず、とにかく閉じこもっている方が楽でいい。

ストーリー終盤で、いくつかの事柄の積み重ねでこの殻が崩壊していき、
透本人が自分は成長しないといけないことに気づくまでの流れは、読んでてぞくっとした。
表現もさることながら、自分も共鳴できる部分が多かったから。

読んだのは実に中学以来です。当時を越える衝撃を受けたと言っても言い過ぎではありません。主人公トオルは、孤独な少年です。トオルにとって、父は「あの人」母は「あんた」でしかなく、新しく転入した学校でもクラスの生徒、教師たちは運命を受け入れて無表情。

なぜこんなにも人間社会は住みにくいのか？なぜみんな自分を殺して無表情に生きているのだ？誰でも子供の頃に抱いた感情でしょう。そんな社会をトオル（ひと時の私たち）は冷ややかに見つめています。

ヒカルという子供じみた偶像と同居し、押し隠した本音（社会に対するアンチテーゼ）を彼に語らせることで「人と分かり合えない自分（なんで自分はこんなに自信がないのか）と「好き勝手やりたい自分（社会に従順でありたくない）」が乖離してしまう恐れを昇華したのではないでしょうか。

最終的に（ネタばれでもあるのですが）「現実」にイヤでも向き合わざるを得ないことに気づき、徐々に、そして一気に大人へと成長するトオル（いささか当たり前すぎる感じですか？）を目の当たりにして、何か思い出すものがあるはずですよ。ああ、こんなに正義感に、違和感に溢れてた時があったんだよなぁ…と。

さて。他には、とても印象的で鮮明な情景描写も個性的です。文章の美麗さが物語を引き立てている、珍しい作品ですね。少なくとも情景描写がくど過ぎず、目に付かない。

星５つ。涙はしませんが、星５つ。特1にヒカルを消し去る瞬間は、圧巻（であってほしい…）ですよ。

｢ピアニッシモ｣と｢海峡の光｣を読んで、それから辻仁成を読まなくなった。
そういう点では特別の思いのある本だけれど、やや暴力的、破壊的な内容から
得られるものが少なかったというのが感想。あくまでも個人的な意見ですけど。
