　うちの子は、本当に活字を読まない。いくら、名作を買ってきて、これいいぞ、ためになるぞ、と言っても、効き目がなく、こち亀を数十冊も所有していることを友人に自慢する、少し変わった女の子だ。　 　ある時、岳物語に出会った。おやじである私が。本屋で時間つぶしをしながら立ち読みしたら、面白くて、止められなくなり買って、会社の帰りに読み終えて、子供に渡したら、あれほど本を、活字を読むスピードが亀だった子供が、すごいスピードで読んでいた。 　この続は、少し椎名家の構成が判った上で読むと周辺 事情がよくわかり、会社帰りの電車で読み終え、携帯で 子供に、これすごく面白いとメールをもらった。子供も 実は同じ本を買って居た。 　子供の育て方のマニュアルなどないということが自然に書かれている椎名家の様子から感じられる。 　それにしてもうちの子、女だけど、岳によく似た言動 だ。大丈夫なのかなあ。

子供が今、当時のガク君と同じ年です。
遠足で甘ったれた女教師が「先生の荷物を持って」と言ったとき「自分のことは自分でしろよな」と正しく突っぱねたガクくん。
その背景には椎名さんの「自分のことは自分でしろ」の教育がありました。
うちはやってあげ過ぎだということに気づきました。
小学生の息子を持つ親にとっては、子供の生きる力を摘み取ってないか振り返る、良いきっかけになる本です。
