椎名誠の代表作とも言えるこの作品。初めて読んだのは小学生のころだったが、とても面白かったのを覚えている。このやさしい文体は、椎名さんの「強さ」がにじみでている。息子である「岳」との生活のなかでの出来事を通し、息子の成長だけでなく、自身の人生についても嫌味なく語っている。断じて、ありがちな子育て日記なんかじゃない。椎名誠は「現代の太宰治」と吉本隆明に評されたが、太宰のようなじめじめとした暗さは微塵もなく、明るい青空のように突き抜けている。何度読んでもほっとするぜ。

もし自分が親になった時に、子供とどうやって関わってよいのかわからない・・という時期がありました。その時この本を読んで、椎名さん親子の関係にとても憧れました。

そして自分が親になり、椎名さんには椎名さんの、自分には自分の親子関係があるのだと分かり、益々この本が楽しめるようになりました。

なぜか夏になると読み返したくなる一冊です。
独身時代も感動したけど、実際私が男の子の親になって
また　感動した作品です。
この本の中の「おとう」にはなれないけれど
息子との関わり方を考えるきっかけにはなりますね。
何かを本から得なくてはいけないなんていう　
強迫観念を忘れて　気軽に読めばいいと思います。
