　1995年に出た単行本の文庫化。「骨相譚」が加えられている。
　1993年に日本ファンタジーノベル大賞の次席に輝いたデビュー作『酒仙』の賞金は250万円であった。その賞金を使い、中国で満漢全席を楽しんだ記録。それに７編の不思議な短編小説を合わせて一冊としている。
　全体に素人っぽさが漂っていて、うんざりさせられた。満漢全席そのものは美味しそうだし、ラクダの瘤とかクマの掌とか奇妙な食材も使われていて面白い。しかし、学生時代の恩師やら友人やらを30人以上連れての大旅行であり、内輪ネタのオンパレードとなってしまっている。みずからを「でふ（南蝶：なんでふ）」と称したり、蛆巻とか奇元とか、学生の同人誌に出てくるような変名を使っていて、いらいらさせられた。
　７編の短篇もお粗末。日常生活と奇妙な出来事を融合させようとしているようだが、雰囲気づくり、意味づけ、構成のすべてにおいて失敗している。発想はそこそこ面白いと思うのだが、うまく処理できていない。
　『ドリトル先生の英国』とか『恐怖の黄金時代』などの学術っぽい内容の本は面白いだけに、期待はずれだった。
