船戸与一の作品はどれも面白い。中でも私が興奮して読んだのがこの「猛き箱舟」である。冒頭、いきなり緊迫したシーンに始まり、徐々に過去が語られていく。舞台は日本からアフリカへ、そしてまた日本へと、男が成長していくさまが描かれる。最後は男の執念の凄まじさに身が震える思いであった。 まだ読んでない人、絶対のオススメ本です。

友人からこの本を薦められた時にハードボイルドが苦手な私は一瞬躊躇した。
しかし、読み始めると瞬時に船戸ワールドへ引き込まれてしまった。
憧れの男からの裏切り、そして復讐への執念。もの凄く男臭いが物凄くかっこいい。
ジャンルの壁を飛び越え小説好きな方には是非読んでいただきたい大作である。

週間プレイボーイに連載中（約25年前）から目をつけていて、
単行本が出て、すぐに買い求めた。
だから、初読は、20年以上前になる。
それから何度読み返したことだろう。
冒険小説とは何か、ビルドゥングスロマンとは何かを私に叩き込んでくれた小説である。
この作品以降、作者自身の手になるものを含めさまざまな冒険小説が世に出たが、
この作品を上回る作品にはお目にかかっていない。
よく、無人島に行くなら、何を持っていくかという問いがあるが、
私ならこの作品を持っていく。
