　第一章で焦らされ焦らされ、ようやくアフリカ入りします。ストーリー、キャラクター、第一章で整えた準備は万端。アフリカでの旅は、もうとにかくページをめくる手を止められません。
　アフリカの大地と人の描写はリアルで、実際私はアフリカに行ったことはありませんが、ちょっとした旅行に行ってきたような気分にさせてくれます。また、物語のテーマでもある「呪術」に対しての考え方も、なるほどなぁと思わせる視点で表現されていて面白いです。呪術というテーマが、超能力・手品・トリック・・・などと微妙なバランスで絡み合っていきます。
　そして大呪術師・バキリの登場です。果たしてバキリは本物の呪術師なのか、それともペテン師か・・・！

３巻完結の中の２巻というのは、たいていダレる。
しかしこの本は違った。３巻の中で一番確信と関連、謎に触れる瞬間を味あわせてくれるのが、この第２巻。
タブーだった地に再び足を入れることになる大生部家。そしてそこで巻き起こる絶体絶命のピンチと多くの謎。

呪術や呪い、そういったものを徹底的に調べ尽くして書かれているだけあってその明瞭さや理解のし易さもさることながら、そういうものにぶつかったときの人間のもろさというものもよく洞察され表現されて、
ストーリーに奥の深さを作り出している。
読んでいくうちに、必ず引き込まれていくストーリーと世界観が

中島らもの絶妙な文体と表現でつむがれていく、絶対おすすめの第２巻！！

前編は”魔術はない”という一貫した観点で展開されていた。新興宗教団体から妻を助けだした主人公一家は本物の魔術探しというテレビ番組の要請で番組クルーと共にアフリカに渡る。首都ケニアは予想以上の都会だが、本物の呪術師を探して僻地へと旅を進めると、もうそこは呪術が文化・物語として社会に埋めこまれた土着の世界。このあたりの呪術に興味のある読者は文化人類学の著作を探して読まれることをお奨めする。日本では小松和彦先生の著作がエキサイティングだ。毒薬、ドラッグの記述はらもさんの得意分野で、読者は一転、”魔術はある”という世界にどっぷりと浸かる事になる。この旅行での主人公一家のプライベートな目的は、かつて、この地のフィールドワーク中の気球事故で行方不明のままの長女を探す事でもあった。そして本物の呪術師バキリを探した時、その長女はバキリのキジ-ツという呪術のしもべとなっていた。彼女を奪回、呪術師の執拗な追跡を逃れ、無事、アフリカから日本へと戻るのだが、このままでは終わらない。前編から中編の呪術への視点の180度の転換に読者はジェットコースターに乗せられたように手に汗。
