　酒に溺れる。新興宗教にのめり込む…と聞くと、暗い暗い悲惨な状況なのだが、まるで喜劇のように描かれているのがこの本。次々登場してくる奇術師、セラピストなどなど、怪しげで興味をそそる人々ばかり。
　底なし沼のような人の心の闇を、老若男女問わず楽に読める物語に仕立てる中島らもは、奇才だとしか言いようがない。おそらく人の弱さやもろさをとことん知り尽くしてしまったのだろう。その病的な鋭敏さゆえ、現世では長く生きられなかったのかもしれない。
　もっともらしくの給う評論家や学者より、人間を深く理解している。アフリカについて、呪術についての知識も半端でない。
　自称中島らもファン、ますますファン度を増しました。

中島らもはアル中や薬中のネタばかり繰っていると思っていたら、大間違い。「ガダラの豚」は大エンタテインメントです。ジャンルとしては、私は冒険小説だと思いますが、冒険小説は現実離れしていて今更読めないという人も、読み始めたら止まらなくなること請け合いです。題材に使っているアフリカの呪術師や新興宗教に関する取材もバッチリで、今やヨレヨレとなってしまった感もある中島らもさんの姿から考えると、この小説をきちんと仕上げてくれた事は奇跡的なことであったように思います。非常に才能のある人なので、またアル中からも躁鬱病からも立ち直って、この本くらい面白い小説を是非書いて欲しい。
中島らもが復活する日のことを考えて、みなさんせめてこの本だけは読みましょう。

鬼才中島らもが僕等に遺した長編ミステリー小説。主人公・大生部教授は専門の文化人類学のフィールドワークの費用捻出のため、矜持を捨て、タレント教授の役割を超能力番組のコメンテーターの日々を送る。番組の中で共演するマジシャン、ミラクルは超能力者のトリック性を次々と明かしていく。番組の演出の描写が構成作家が書いた台本のようにリアルだ。一方主人公の妻はなくした娘の傷が癒えぬ事がトラウマとなっていて、友人に誘われた事を契機に自己開発セミナーと超能力を売り物にした新興宗教団体にはまっていく。セミナーの描写もリアリティがあって読みふけってしまう。大生部はミラクルの助けを得て、宗教団体教祖の超能力のいんちきをあばいて、妻の救出を図る。前編は”魔術はない”という一貫した論理でスト-リーが展開するが、後編はそれが一転。逆の論理で急展開していく。さて、その続きは後編で。
