戦線スパイクヒルズという題名で、ヤングガンガンで
漫画化になっている作品の原作です。
話は、早稲田大学の入試問題を盗み出すために
あつまった３人の高校生たちの青春群像です。
しかし、不思議なのが、旺文社の模試で数学だか物理で
トップを取ったというスウガクが何故、文系の大学に
入学しようと思っているのか、そして、彼程の実力があれば
早稲田くらい簡単に入れないのかと不思議な事が満載です。
主人公は過激な性質なのに、自分のことを「僕」というのも
スウガクの硬派っぽい性格の対照として描いているんでしょうか？
変なところも多々　見受けられますが、面白いのでオールオッケー。
星５つの快作です。

原田宗典の小説は２作目。前には『優しくって少しばか』を読み、もう少し後期の作品で、女以外を書いたものを読みたいという感想を持った。本作は『優しくって少しばか』の６年後に出版された作品。そして「女」以外を書いている。

そんなわけで、まさに「読みたい」と思っていた作品にあたったわけだけれども、残念ながら「単純なジュブナイル」といった感じ。昔懐かしすぎるけれども『ヘッドフォン・ララバイ』（窪田 僚）や、『ぼくらの七日間戦争』（宗田 理）という感じだ（余談ながら、ここに挙げた２作品は結構好きだった。両作者の他の作品はあまり好きになれなかったけれど）。

もっとも、こういうテーマの本であるのに一気に読了したのはディテイルの面白さもあったからだろう。でも読了後に考えれば、作中に登場する「トム・ソーヤー」や「ハックルベリー・フィン」、そして準主役のおばあちゃんの運命などに説教臭さを感じて、あまり好きにはなれない作品だった。

エッセイの達人、原田宗典の裏名作！
とどまるところを知らないストーリー展開、スピード感が満ち溢れてます。
おバカなエッセイだけが、原田の魅力ではないのです。「十七歳だった！」で書かれているような青春をおくった者だからこそ書ける、真面目にひねくれた青春、まっすぐな友情と恋、そして魅せるラスト。

原田宗則とは？いまいち冴えない２．５枚目？挙動不信な苦手の人？
違います。おバカとクールを自在に操る、してやったりな男だったのです！
