タイトル、インパクトありすぎ。

おもわず本屋で見かけて、思わず手に取った一冊。僕はまだ小学生だったよ。今でもこの本は大切に持ってる。

妖しく哀しく少しだけ懐かしい。
そんな短編がぎっしりと詰まった、想いの玉手箱。
開けたら最後、自分の中身が吸い出されてしまいます。

「貴子の胃袋」で、お父さんが

「悪魔なら殺してもいいのか？」て問うところが好き。

ホラーの要素をふんだんに含んだ、気の利いたオムニバス集です。やはり退屈しない。ゾッとさせながらも、う~ん、とうならせる技は、著者のストーリーテラーとしての才能を存分に体感させるものでしょう。

ここまで読みやすく軽い味わいながらも、ラスト数十行で一気にまとめてやって来る恐怖のテンポ感はさすが中島らも氏とうならせる。
「ガダラの豚」のような長編の中でのウネリのような強弱も凄かったけど、短編の歯切れ感も素晴らしいと思った。
氏のホラー好きは有名な話だが、同時に笑わせる才能も突出している。
ゲラゲラ笑った後に10倍の恐怖がやってくるような構成の話もいくつかある。
劇団リリパットアーミーの芝居として演じられていたこの「人体模型の夜」だが、舞台版も見てみたいと思った。

12編の中で一番怖かった「はなびえ」は、小説以外では表現の不可能な恐怖。
都市伝説的な怪談を上手く練り込んだ手腕にはただただ脱帽！
