「小説すばる」に、イラストレーターである「私」が年下の女友達から明かされた、打ち明け話とその周辺というテーマで連載されたものを一冊にまとめたものだからか、８話まとめて読んでみると、単調という感が否めず、星２つという感想を持ちました。

描かれる女性たちの境遇のほとんどがかなり裕福なお嬢様で、設定が酷似し過ぎており、作者の個人的感情と作品は別と考えているのでしょうが、そういう女性への僻みがあったりして？？といらぬ想像もしてしまいました。

自分のまわりにもいる、いろいろな女友だちのことを想像しつつ、それよりももっと濃い内容のストーリーを期待して手に取りましたが、ちょっと期待はずれだったかもしれません。もう少し、いろいろな立場・境遇で描いたら、一人一人の人生にもっと広がりが出たのではと思いました。

これは林真理子さんから見た視点なのかなと思いました。年下の女ともだち、お金持ちでセレブでも女性の悩みは同年代では同じなのかもしれません。恋愛と結婚、一筋縄では皆いかない感じですね。登場人物がセレブ系ばかりでしたが、考えさせられる部分はありました。

林真理子の全作品に共通して言えることなのだが、「美人、結婚、裕福」という言葉に対して過剰反応しすぎで、不快感が否めない。
文章は簡易で読みやすいが、作品に漂う嫉みそねみに辟易としてしまい、読後感がよくない。また、作中に、「ファッション誌から抜け出してきたモデルのように綺麗だった」という表現があるのだが、ここに作者の軽薄さ極まれり、という気がしてしまった。
幸福な女性を表す表現は他にいくらでもあるだろうに、ファッション誌のモデルとは・・・
空々しくて見かけだけな、作者の日ごろの生活が偲ばれる。
しかし不快になると知りつつ手にとってしまうところに、この作家の
引力があるのではないだろうか。
