待望の文庫書き下ろし。
作者の「タカノ」がトーキョーで会った外国人８名との交流記です。
登場する外国人のパーソナリティもユニークですが、作者のリアクションにも驚かされます。自分が当事者であっても３人称的な視点で考えて書いてしまう独特の面白さ、今回もかなり笑えます。作者は「国際人」なので、居心地の悪さを感じていても誰とでもつきあえるようだし、この本の底流には相手に対する一種の愛情（人類愛？？）があふれていて読後、大変爽やかです。

探検のため習ったリンガラ語、フランス語、スペイン語、アラビア語、中国語の先生やその子息や兄弟、あるいは視覚障害者の野球好きの人などなど、日本に来た色々な外国人が作者と交流。それによって作者の視点も移動し「東京」が「トーキョー」に変化しているのに気がつくのですが、そういう難しいことを抜きにしても楽しめるのが本書です。

私は日本と国交のない国がアフリカにもあり、そこから優秀な留学生が来ているというのが驚きでした。

視覚障害者の野球好きの人に、野球ボールを触らせたいと言う「タカノ」。
探検家は語学に強く、そして優しい人なのです。

何も読んでもはずれのない高野本だが、
この作品は完成度からいえば、ベスト３に入るだろう。

とにかく面白い。

「珠玉の短編集」という言葉は使い古されているが、
まさに本書はそれだ。

笑いとペーソスがほどよくブレンドされ、
最後の「盲目のスーダン人」では一気にクライマックスへ。

読後は、国際人かどうかなんてどうでもよくなりました（笑）。

高野氏が８人の外人とトーキョーで過ごした日々を描いた、今までの著書のように辺境での冒険譚を読むような興奮を味わうことはないが、味わい深い物語が収められている。
テイストで言えばワセダ三畳に近いかも。
どの話も面白いのだが、特に最後の章のトーキョー・ドームの暑い夜は必読！
なんか読み終わった後、なんとも言えない心地よい気分になれた本。
