学生寮に管理人としてやってきた元機動隊の名倉。主人公の薫平らは、「若者が嫌いだ」と放言する名倉の持ち出した厳しい規則などから反発をするが、自殺未遂、ストーカー騒動・・・それらの事件に真摯に相談に乗り、態度で示す名倉に信頼を深めて行く。

私の読んだ野沢作品はミステリが多く、序盤に大きな事件が起こって、そこから最後まで全力疾走というスピード感溢れる作品が殆どだったのだが、この作品は全く毛色が異なる。事件と言っても、序盤は散発的なちょっとしたトラブルばかりだし、それだけで一気に・・・ということもない。ただ、それらの細かな事件をきっかけに名倉への信頼が強くなり、薫平らが成長していく姿がしっかりと描かれ、最後の大事件へと少しずつ加速していく。登場人物それぞれの心理がしっかり描かれていて、心地よく読み進めることができた。

はっきり言って、現代の無気力な若者が、昔気質の大人に触れ、反発しながらも成長するだなんて、古典的も良いところである。が、そんな古典的な題材でありながらも全く古さを感じずに料理している、というのは、著者の筆力以外の何者でもあるまい。

面白かった。

野沢尚ときいて貴方は何を思い浮かべるでしょう？
深紅、砦なき者、破線のマリス、リミット...
数多くの作品とともに、
バイオレンスで暗い作品を作る作家という
イメージも拭いきれない作家です。

しかし、この反乱のボヤージュは違います
この野沢は深紅などの悲哀を引きずりながらも、
かなりさわやかな作調になっております。
そう、今までの野沢が「夜の野沢」とするなら、
この野沢は「昼の野沢」ではないでしょうか？

始めはたくさんの登場人物があちこちに散らばっている感じだけど、最後には全員が揃ってのクライマックスとなる。それぞれのキャラクターが、これだけの人数分しっかり立てたのは凄いと思う。テーマは、愛とか友情とか、シンプルなものです。シンプルでいて重厚な味わいがある、そんな作品です。
