新聞の書評で激賛されていたので、興味がわいて読んでみた。おんな同士の恋愛小説なのだが、読み終わって泣けてきた。不幸になるのがわかっていてもハマっていく綱渡りのような恋。そんな悲しい、苦しい恋をしたことのある人ならきっとわかると思う。レンアイに性別なんてカンケイない。読み進むうちに息苦しくなるようなせつなさにおそわれた。また読み返したくなるような、しばらくページをめくる勇気が持てないような･･･そんな本である。

題名に惹かれて、中身も見ずに買いました。
こんなに悲しい恋愛はないでしょう。
異性であれ同性であれ、恋愛に嫉妬や裏切りはつきものだけど、
登場人物たちのやりとりがものすごくリアルで、胸にせまってきます。
読んでいて苦しくなるし、読み切るのにパワーが必要ですが、
苦しくなるとわかりつつ、何度も読み返してしまいました。
ハッピーなだけの恋愛はないと、改めて気付かされたのでした。
この小説に出てくる異性同士、同性同士の恋愛こそが
本当の恋愛の姿なのかもしれません。

プラトンの「饗宴」に出てきたアンドロギュノスの話を思い出しました。人間の原初的な姿は、男女、男男、女女とあって、その神をも恐れぬ力を嫌ったゼウスが一人一人に分割してしまったため、互いにその片割れを恋い求め合うというのが、恋愛の起源とされるものです。この小説の主人公の女性は、女性と恋に落ちます。通勤電車で広げて読むには、ちょっと恥ずかしいようなシーンが延々と続きますが、ふと、性愛の究極の形は、女性同士かもしれないとも思います。男は女の身体を求め、女は男の心を求め、所詮、男と女の心には、深い溝があると言いますから。

ジャカルタに彼女を探しに行く当たりからの展開はなかなか秀逸です。テーマは重いですが、小説としては間違いなく面白い。

同性愛のことは、よく理解できないまま色眼鏡で見てきた私ですが、この本を読み終えると、とてもピュアに、ニュートラルに見ることが出来るようになるから不思議です。人を好きになるのに、男も女もないのかもしれません。
