狂気が、すぐそこにあるにもかかわらず、気づかない、異常さが紙一重で隣合っている、そんな世界を、実にリアリスティックに丹念に描いている。私は著者の作品の中で、この作品が最も好きだ。

帝国医科大学付属病院・精神神経科医師・南川藍子。彼女の周りに３人の脳・精神疾患をもつ男が現れる。
犯人逮捕の際のけがが元で、脳梁が損傷し、右脳と左脳の交通がたたれ刑事の海藤。
試合中にマスコットガールを絞め殺そうとしたプロ野球選手・追分。
そして制服姿の女性の胸に裁ちばさみを突き立てる連続殺人犯北浦。
である。

この３人と関わりを持つうちに、藍子自身の命もねらわれることになり・・・。

サイコサスペンスという分類になるのだろうか。

作者の作品の中では、失礼ながら地味な印象がある（映画化されたのだが・・・、しかも売れる前の高島礼子の初主演作で）本作品だが、サスペンス作品として十分読む価値のある作品だと思う。「脳髄」「大脳」「脳梁」など小難しい単語が!出てくることが、読者を遠ざけているのかもしれないが、これらの単語の意味がわからなくても、本を読み進める上で支障がないので、是非トライしていただきたい。作品の最後には、作者らしく「落ち」がついている。

脳科学、心理学をテーマにしたサイコ・サスペンス。
これは久々のヒット！ページ数以上に読み応えがあり面白かった。

精神科医が深層心理を分析しながら、
猟奇的な殺人を繰り返す犯罪者の内面に迫っていく・・・という物語。
ところどころに小難しい医学用語が出てくるが、殆ど問題なく読めた。

一体何が、人間の精神を破壊してゆくのか？
不遇な環境や不運な出来事が生み出す、歪んだ心の恐ろしさ。
それはさして大げさな事でも特別な事でもなく、
ほんの少し何かが違っていたなら自分たちにも起こり得ること。
そう思うと非常に恐怖をおぼえる。

また、主人公の女医と関わる三人の異常者の中で、
脳に傷を負ったことにより右脳と左脳の情報交換が出来なくなった男の話が
何よりも一番興味深かった。
脳が正常に機能しなくなると、人間はどうなるのか？それが精神にもたらす影響とは？
この作品を読んで考えてみても、絶対に損はないと思う。
