有名男子校に通う４人の生徒が主人公で、まず４人ともとても魅力的な人物です。４人にはそれぞれ事情があり、他の生徒は帰省する冬休みに寮に残ります・・。徐々にそれぞれの事情や秘密が明かされていくのですが・・それがとてもドキドキして面白い。いつも表面に出してる顔とは別の一面をそれぞれが持っていて、そのギャップにも秘密が関係していてなおさら先が気になるぅ~という感じです。
最初は仲は良いけどお互いに一定の距離を置いている４人の間に、最後の方では連帯感が生まれお互いを守りたいという友情が生まれていったところも素敵な物語だなぁと思いました。

恩田さんの作品としては、あっさりというか、ライトな感じなこの作品。
温かさを感じる。
恩田さん本人も言うように、今では書けない作品、実にそんな感じがする。

舞台はとある男子校の寮である松籟館。
冬休みに各々の理由を持ち、寮に残る居残り組となった美国、光浩に寛治。そして通学組である統。
お互い"嘘"を１つ含めた告白大会。
互いに干渉しあうことなく、馴れ合うことなく過ごす術を知っているはずの４人の本音に隠してたこと。
町外れの男子校の寮。松籟の音。白い服の人。赤い爪。消えた幽霊。開け放たれた扉。
いくつかミステリー要素がちりばめられている、そんな作品。

いくつかミステリー要素があるわりには、ミステリーな感じはしない。
心理戦がたくさんあるわけでもない、だけど少年たちの洞察力の良さは恩田作品ならではという感じもする。
いつもと違う雰囲気もたまにはいいなって思えた。

完全なるミステリーを求めてる人にはおすすめできないが、そうでないのなら、
これからは生まれることのないこの作品の雰囲気、世界観をぜひ味わって欲しい。

冬休みのそれぞれの理由をもって残った男子生徒４人の７日間の寮生活をする。ドラマ化されたこともあって恩田陸さんの作品とは知らなくても作品としては知っている方が多いと思われる作品です。

恩田陸さんの学園ものというとミステリーホラーが多いですがネバーランドはその雰囲気は後ろに隠れておりはじめて恩田作品を読む人も他の作品を読んだことがある人もこんな学園小説があるんだと感じられます。

そして、ドラマはみていないのですが読んでいてドラマになる作品だなぁ。と感じました。スピード感もあり凄く一日一日に色々なことが凝縮されていって７日間の話を書いているのにもっと長い間の話を書いたかのようです。また、主要な登場人物の４人の性格が違うのでその性格の違いも読んでいて面白いです。読み終わった後高校という限られた時にこの本のような体験をしたい！と、感じさせてくれました。
