「あっちこっちめぐり」を中学生時代に読んで失望して以来、
この人の作品は見ないことにしていた。

「もものかんづめ」は面白いと思うし、身内のことをこき下ろすのは構わないと思う。
よく知っている身内のことであれば、それなりに文句をいう根拠もあるし、共感も呼ぶ。
ただ、旅行で訪れただけのインドのことを、あそこまでボロクソに言える神経は疑ってしまう。
遠藤周作氏と対談するくらいなら、氏の作品少しでも読んだらどうですか？
なにも「死について考える」だけではなく、インドについて書かれたものは沢山あるのですが。
幾ら後年とはいえ、『深い河』の作者との対談を載せた本でインドのことをあそこまでいうのは本当にどういう感覚なのか聞いてみたい。
別にインドがどうこうということではなく、観光で言っただけの場所についてこうもいえる辺りに、
「あっちこっちめぐり」に如実に現れてくるような傲慢さが垣間見える。

ちなみにここまで言っていますが、まだこの旅行記は後のものに比べればいい旅行記です。
寝ているイヌのことなどでも素朴さが感じられるし、
乗り物で失敗したり、贅沢三昧だけでない彼女の庶民的な視点がまだ健在です。
それで星ふたつとしました。

この人の昔の作品である「ほのぼの劇場」などが非常に好きだっただけに、キツいです。

さくらももこさんの本はどれもおもしろいですが、これはさくらももこさんの笑いの原点です。１００万部以上売れています。みなさんもぜひ手に取って読んでみて下さい。ただし面白すぎるのでおしゃれなカフェとかでは読まないで下さいね★☆

忍び笑いの連発になること請け合い。電車などで読んだらはっきりいって気味の悪い人になってしまいます。寒い視線をこらえることが出来るのであれば持ち歩いて読んでみたい本です。視点も独特ですが、興味を持って実行に移していることもかなりのもんです。「飲尿療法」についての記述にはもう脱帽。作者のエッセイはほんとにすばらしいです。
