2007年クリタ舎「確かに生きる　10代へのメッセージ」に加筆

アルピニストの野口が生きてきた道程。
いじめられ、いじめ、落ちこぼれ、そして植村の本で登山を始める。
そこには多くの人の出会いがある。すなわち他者との関係性の中で自らが
育てられていく過程。
登山、それも人を拒む様な高度の山々へ生死を賭けて挑む、そして仲間や
シェルパの死、シェルパの村の子供たちの貧弱な医療体制による死を
目の当たりにする。
エベレスト清掃に絡む橋本龍太郎氏とのエピソードは、男、橋本龍太郎を
見せつけてくれるし、自分が若干係わりをもった橋本氏となんらブレること
のない姿である。
野口氏の真摯な態度が自然と回りの人々を魅了するのであろう。そして
その影には想像もつかない努力と苦労があると感じる。
高校時代イギリスの邦人高校を停学になり、一時期日本で右翼団体に入って
演説した下りは面白い。そして当時イエメン大使であった父親がそれを
許し辞表を用意していたという。
そんな父親にならねばならないと思ったが
すでに遅いのだ気がついた。
10代でなくても読む価値十分。

私は、現在体調を崩して会社を休職を決めたところです。このように落ち込んだ時に、この本を読むことをお勧めします。
　野口健さんの波乱万丈な人生に、一途な努力があることが伝わってきます。今の自分に十分の一でも、その一途さが欲しいです。
　若くて元気なころは、一途に仕事に励んでいたのに、今のテイタラク。もう一度気持ちを切り替えて、心機一転やり直すために、休職を決め、４ヶ月後には復活すると心に誓うことができました。
